A 2.56 rear end? Did I read that right? That is some tall gearing. It must go 200 mph. |

Rocket you get my vote with the TVR first and the Lotus 2nd! What year is the Lotus? My good buddy is still driving his (bought new) 1965 Elan S2. I think the only thing that is original is maybe the horn button and I am not certain on that. The big Caprice caught my eye also. |

1987 535is, many mods ... schrick cam, extensive headwork, remus full exhaust, BMW 750il calipers, MSD ignition, 5 spd, eibach springs, bilstein sport shocks and struts, 3.91 rear end (same as M5) ... this car is actually faster than a next generation M5, and can handle as well too ...
Lots of other misc things... full euro M535I body kit is in the shed waiting for paint ... Just sold several other old school BMW's ... My favorite was my euro 86 325 .. 5 SPD, manual crank moonroof .. blue houndstooth interior .. and of course many other things ... such a fun little car to toss around ..
These older ones are the true BMW's - the ones that have that unmistakable look and not the look of Buick's or Nissan's like the latest generataion of BMW's .. and these are not driven by a computer - these are truly ultimate driving machines ! BMW's like Buell's are not top speed demons, but can out handle just about anything ... Can you tell I like corner carvers ? (Message edited by tattoodnscrewd on May 23, 2007) |

The Elan was hidden behind a car dealers pitch I passed by last year. I believe it's very early 70's. Circa, Lotus sponsored by Embassy Gold Leaf in F1. Its owner would not sell. I've often held a belief that the Elan with the big valve engine is the fastest car I'd ever driven down a twisty road. Old friends have been Lotus, particularly Elan, mad for years. We once put a Twin Cam at 1800cc into a 15ft Fletcher Arrow speedboat. That was when many said it was nigh on impossible to get a 711 Ford block to 1800cc. That was a fast boat I can tell ya! The TVR is a neighbours. The pic was taken two weeks ago. That's a week after completion of a £20.000 restoration that's taken 20 years! I went for a spin in her after the pic was taken. To think of it as nearly 50 years old running a mild tune 1800cc on twin carb's, in a car weighing around 1000 kilos, the performance back then would have been nothing short of remarkable. My 1977 Taimar is not dissimilar in design to the original Grantura's. As racing cars, their designs still work today, and would give many modern cars a big surprise. The Gilbern Genie is very rare, and identical to one I owned about 15 years ago. Like Barton, Gilbern's were built in Wales. In fact, I think Gilbern is the only car ever to be built in Wales. The Ginetta is a curious Hillman Imp engined design. Imp engines are a derivative of the Coventry Climax all alloy water cooled fire pump engine, which Colin Chapman originally used in his first Lotus Elite. Imp engines were hugely popular, and very successful in sidecar racing in the 60's 70's and even into the 80's. The Bond Bug is one I came across recently, hidden away in the front garden of a sleepy village dwelling. Its owner won't sell. I have always wanted one, but restored ones are reaching 5K, and that sort of money can be far better spent frankly. The Vantage was my brother in-laws until recently. He traded it for the Vanquish about 8 weeks ago. He's already bumped the Vanquish, which cost £22.000 to repair! Now he's scared to drive it, despite attending the Aston driving course. Brother in-law wants another Vantage now. Sadly, his 'old' one sold straight away otherwise he'd have traded back. Rocket |

Rocket, before you buy a Bug go drive one. I have, not an experience I would reccommend. The seats are moulded in the shell with about 1 inch thick vinyl covered foam cushions. We used to draw straws between the apprentices to see who lost & had to service the thing, it was known as "The Whistle" due to it's shape or "The Pilerator" due to it's seats, but usually it was just called "That ****ing thing!" I've always wanted one of these though. Drove a few of them, back in the days when I used to work in a FIAT dealers.

I've had the sadistic pleasure of Buggin' about 20 years ago. It is the scariest thing at speed, and looks funky fab 70's chic, which of course are great reasons to own one. That's if one came along cheap. But they don't, so I won't. Seeing as you're posting Abarth's, here's a real race car with doors!
My good friend Neil's recent purchase. Can anyone find me another please? Rocket |

Well...over here we haver very few true sports cars. Even Mustangs and the like started out as sedans and were compromised with platform sharing. Ever drive a SVT Focus/ST 170? On rails! |

I looked at new Mustangs, and was really surprised at how LARGE they are. I've seen a few "true" sports cars in here, although I hope this doesn't turn into a --what makes a true sports car-- thread. It's hard to tell in the pic, but I thought I saw the TR8 hood bulge in Kdan's photo. Ever since I read Graham Robson's book, The Works Triumphs, I have had a better respect for those cars. As a former TR6 owner, those are words that I never thought I'd say! Wish I could post a pic of the S2000, it's my second favorite car of all that I've owned. |

Being on 'rails' is precisely why a sport car should be defined as light, rear wheel drive, and with a lot of power. At least enough power and more to have to control the slide when it steps out, or steer the fishtail induced from the LSD. 'On rails' one should not be! Technology in cars, really fast cars, is awesome. But sport cars should be raw and leave most of the 'winning' down to the drivers skill. That's why the TVR has always appealed to me.

thump, m45 eaton, jackson racing through moss motorsports. get the m62 from moss, 200 at the wheels 10-1 pwr to weight, great fun. all torque, instant power, not the fastest way to go but has truly been a "plug and play" for me (installed spring 98). |

Here's my brother's ride. '76 Z that he restored. It's got fully adjustable Tokico suspension, transplanted 5-sp, home-machined billet Al frame bracing, 4 wheel disk conversion, ZX turbo transplant, intercooler, and with very minimal boost is turning 300 HP and 300 lb/ft at the wheels. I've only driven it around the block, but it is the cat's arse.

If I had the cash I'd buy either an Ariel Atom
Not that I've been dreaming about it or anything I think the Atom qualifies as a sports car. I know my former intercept vehicle isn't in that classification, but it is as close as I get aside from the wife's V6 automatic firebird. Paddle shifters becoming available has made getting back into a sports car a possibility again. I used to love stick shifts, but now my clutch leg, it no work so good. I CAN overcome such minor details. I already did on my bike However, I can't pull $$$$$ out of thin air. It's hard enough to justify the cost of having my bike right now. In fact things had gotten lean enough this past winter that I had seriously considered selling it. SO this thread started as: "Just wondering if it extends to cars for many of you...I drive an S2000" which most had roughly translated to : what sports car do YOU as a Buell owner drive? So in response people were posting their cars, or basically saying, as I was, this is as close as I get, not that we don't know what a sports car is. I'm sure most do. If I was to post what others are driving....well I just did in this post } |

Interceptor, that's a FIAT 131 Abarth, a good genuine rally spec one will set you back about $70k at least these days. The stock 131 Sport or Rallye were an absolute hoot, snarly 2litre twin cam, 5 cog box & live axle; trouble is the steel they used for the bodies was made out of sugar & just melted away in the rain. |
