Now I know that HD came up with a replacement battery for the tubers, but do any of you know of a battery that is the same size and cranking amps as the original battery supplied with the bike. I have a chop that I built out of my S1W back in 2000. At the time that I built I designed the new battery box to accept the original battery that came with it. These days the battery HD sells for the Buells and Sportster is a common one that is a little wider than the original. Problem is that there is some interference from my CHAIN if I run the newer replacement. Any info is greatly appreciated. Smitty | ||

The original S1 battery was a discontinued line that was later updated. SEE HERE I believe the type of battery you are looking for is still available in the US. I'm not sure if the info in the West Coast thing I posted is completely accurate. I run a Red Top 20 battery in my S1. It's an absorbent glass mat (AGM) battery, and are superior to GEL as I understand it. Red Top's are manufactured here in the UK, though I don't believe that is entirely true. My understanding is the batteries are bought in kit form from the US and assembled here. The company that makes Red Top batteries DMS Technologies, I'm pretty certain buys the kits from Odyssey. Conclusion; Odyssey must still make the same size battery for the US market. If all else fails, Demon Tweeks will ship a Red Top 20 out to you. Expect to pay close to $180 to $200 plus shipping. I'd guess air freight would cost around $30 a kilo. Not cheap then!! Rocket | ||

Sounds like whatever you buy, it'd be especially worth it for you to drop $45 on a battery tender Jr. to keep it alive a bit longer!  |
