I see quite a few people swapping to chains. What's the point? It makes your buell stand out among buells, but it totally blends with the rest of the crowd.

The belt is part of what makes these bikes unique, why take that away?

Is there a performance gain u are chasing?

most people that have gone to a chain have been burned by the belt snaping and leaving them stranded (some more then once) I think there really isnt much of a performance gain unless you start playing with your gear ratios.

I am with you, I like my belt. No maint. like a chain and its different then the rest of the sport bikes.

you have used the terms "unique", "stand out" and "totally blends with the rest".
From your apparent point of view, there may not be a benefit to modify YOUR bike in that fashion. I removed my belt drive kit because it broke 400 miles from home on a holiday weekend. This caused me some inconvenience, so I took the necessary steps to permanently dispose of this particular weak link on an otherwise serviceable motorcycle. I live in Alaska, ride far from home, and lay a heavy premium on the utmost reliability in all mechanical contrivances. No fashion statement was intended.

I absolutely love the belt, but the first time it leaves me stranded, it's gone.

I do love the belt, though. Clean, silent (except when it's not) and absolutely maintenance free in 35,000 miles.

Yes chains break too.
And a broken chain may cause more damage.

BUT

I can go to almost any UJM Bike shop and get a chain and they will know how to replace it.
Or you can do it yourself.

Try changing a belt from a XB on the side of the road or having a UJM shop tech do it, that is if the UJM shop has a spare Buell belt.

Best of luck finding a Buell dealer in the middle of no where with a Buell Belt in stock.

I changed my Tuber over to chain 'cause it takes over 2 to 3 hours to change the belt.

If it was easier and I could change a belt as easy as a chain I would of kept my belt...

Completely different applications. Why are you so worried about people wanting a chain on their Buells,it's really none of your concern.

Do they make one for the 06/07 swing arm? Also do they make a sprocket for quicker acceleration?

Saintly would know about the 06/07 swing arm, you might want to pm him.

A variety of sprockets are available to allow for faster acceleration, ( I use one myself), or for other specialized uses, ie: stunting, road racing, touring.

My race bikes use chain.

My street bikes use belt or a shaft.

The answer to which is better depends upon your application. No one but you decides how you use your bike, so you get to decide which one is better...

And just look at how many top fuel dragsters use chain drive on their blowers...

If you have the correct tools, spare belt and have worked thru the belt change procedure once it should take you less than half an hour too swap it out on the side of the road. Works that way on my ULY YMMV.

Hammer at the Gap

REAL MEN RUN CHAIN!
GOT IT?
That's right, Hammer can't ride a lick, his chain allows him to do that. LOL

This is like Big Block vs. Small Block, auto vs. manual, V-Twin vs. I4, or any other endless debate that has been hashed over, and over, and over, and.....

The "Chain Gang" is very proud of their chain conversions. I still can't get over the fact that Hammer really couldn't ride if it wasn't for his chain conversion, shocking.

For me, it's a belt. Why? It came on my bike and I can spend alot of money on fuel while my belt lasts. Is belt better, who cares? GO RIDE.

edit: Disturbed-that picture's been up on this board before, and it's been edited out before. It's in poor taste, even if it's kinda funny and on target.

It's funny how the second I put it on I was transformed into a better rider. LOL. No other reason for me other than quicker acceleration and more drive out of the corners (lost a little top end) but thats not where I needed the boost.

Real men run chains.

Real men don't trailer their bikes

Real men don't have cheese graters.

Real men don't run stock exhaust

Give me a break.

I am starting to have a hard time keeping up.

Chain verses belt.....If ya feel like Changing to a chain have at it, Notice I did not say upgrade.

It is your bike make it your own.
