After 19,000 miles it's time to replace the clutch cable on my XB9S. It didn't break...it just isn't smooth any more. Anyway, what is the torque spec for threading the cable into the primary cover? I have the service manual, and I can't find it anywhere. |

I don't have the number handy, but it is VERY low; it's in inch-pounds rather than foot-pounds. The fitting is aluminum and will wring off VERY easily. It seals with an o-ring and really doesn't need to be much more than finger tight to seal leak-free. |

I've got 30,000 miles on mine -- and it's an all season rider. Unless the cable is frayed or kinked, there's not much reason to replace it. Instead, use Cable Lube with the applicator tool -- it works great! You'll need to use it both at the adjuster and the lever. |

torque spec is: "NOT VERY TIGHT" Very funny. This is not the time for sarcasm. Actually, you torque it so it only weeps a little oil, but not too much. |

Be very carfull. I bought one to replace my broken on and then broke the new one cause I kinda tightend it toooo much. I screwed my 2nd new cable in until it just touched the o-ring and then went just a bit more. if the need to know any more ways about how NOT to put it in let me know, I now have an old and a new broke cable PS the manual says 75-100 in lbs but I don't have the right wrench |

i notice that when the case is hot it can turn, when cold it doesnt. I check my only when hot and have not stripped it. When its cold it tight. I think when the case is cold the threads are very fragle. hope this helps. |
