The low beam headlamp seemed to be a bit dim, so I took it apart and saw that the mirror finish was a bit "cloudy". So I wiped it out only to remove much of that "mirrored" finish. Now I feel like the dim wit! Looks like I'll be replacing that part but it shoulda been in better condition being that I only have under 7K miles on it! Moral of the storey: don't think you can clean that part of without destroying it! | ||

That has happened to a number of people here, its not you. The reflective coating breaks down over time from the heat generated from the light bulb. Buell knows about the problem... they are supposed to come up with a fix. Several people have posted regarding this issue including myself. Do a search you will see what I mean. | ||

Yep it is an ongoing issue for firebolt owners. Do not use higher wattage bulbs! it will only accelerate the decay and can/has caused melting of the housing. | ||

You sure about melting the housing? It's metal..just how friggin hot are those bulbs? Perhaps if the housing was vented, it would last a bit longer? | ||

Unfortunately the Firebolt headlight housings are plastic, the lens is glass. The standard 55 watt bulb will also melt or distort the housing. | ||

FYI- The updated part numbers for the Firebolt headlight assemblies are: High: Y0427.02A8 Low: Y0400.02A8 Each goes for about $55 at the dealer. I would recommend bringing these part numbers with you to the counter or have them ready by the phone when ordering. Several dealers looked up the wrong part and told me they didn't have any in stock, but when I provided the updated number above, they had several on the shelf. I'm not sure what all is updated about the lights, but they used to be about $35 a year or two ago. -Tork |
