I recently posted a problem I was having with by 01 M2, i.e. trans fluid "puking" out the vent tube on to my tire. Ive read other forums discussing the pri/trans fluid. Its apparent that HD Syn 3 is out. Which leaves AMSOIL and Mobil 1. Question I have is the Mobil 1 which everyone refers to Mobil 1 V-Twin motor oil or is there a specific pri/trans fluid. The V-Twin states its for engine, trans, wet clutch, and primary. Just want to make sure before I change it. I also have a bottle of REVTECH gear and chaincase lube for Sportsters. Recommendations? Thx.

If you overfill the trans--and it only needs 28 ozs to get it to bottom of clutch basket-- it will puke out when hot. The other culprit is a bad crank seal allowing engine oil to leak by under pressure, overfilling your trans.Loosing any engine oil all of a sudden?? And I have used Mobil 1, the HD syn, Redline, all worked well.Sportrans is the old non syn HD trans oil.Rev Tech will work.

Thanks Firemanjim.
I had made two trips on the interstate to Savannah, GA and both times, I puked oil from the vent tube. Second time I went to a local shop (owner owns 3 Buells) we drained and filled the trans to spec. During a 110 mile poker run no problems. Going home on I-16, puke.... So I will put Mobil V-Twin 20W50 in the pri/trans about 26-27 oz. It doesnt leak anywhere else. Thank goodness. If that doesnt cure it then a crank seal is in order. Thx.

Don't mean to hijack this thread, but I need a quick answer and I'm not sure if I'll be able to find it in a search.

I changed the primary fluid when I bought my bike last fall around 7,000 miles. I'm going to change it again this weekend at 10,000 miles just for fun.

I bought a bottle of Formula+ transmission fluid at the Dealer yesterday. When I got home, I looked at the old bottle (still had a little left and I kept it around) and taht was Sport-Trans Fluid.

The back of the Sport-Trans bottle says its a special formula for 1971 XR and XL bikes or something like that.

Was that the wrong stuff to go in my bike? Will the small amount of the old react with the new??

Thanks

Nick
