Author Message   H2otech Posted on Tuesday, May 08, 2007 - 11:37 pm:        left the house, got about a qtr mile, bike started running on one cylinder, check engine lite came on, made it back to the house, bike died. key on, no fuel pump or starter, checked fuses, found ignition fuse blown, replaced fuse, turned key on fuse blew right away, Anyone had this happen?? where do I start looking for the short? any help to shorten down time would be appreciated, its 85 out and I want to ride. thanks   Sparky Posted on Wednesday, May 09, 2007 - 12:43 am:        CEL came on so there must be error codes to check. This would be a great first step: to determine what the EFI sees as a problem. If you don't know how to do this, I'm pretty sure the procedure is explained in the Knowledge Vault in the BadWeb. No expensive tools are required, just patience and a jumper wire. In the meantime, you might try turning the handlebars left and right while looking at the wire harness around the steering neck. Check every wire where the harness lays against the frame or engine. If you see any wire insulation that looks damaged, pinched or showing exposed wire, that is quite possibly the culprit. Note: shorts in the wire harness might trip error codes that would indicate a faulty sensor or component when actually the suspect part is OK. So knowing what error codes are set can be considered a clue, not a gospel, hard-core, black or white indicator of the root cause of the problem. I believe I've found the problem.
