I was riding my xb down the "blvd" in altoona tonight coming back from a car show and I caught a red light. I look in my back up camera to see/hear a crowd of harley riders. They pull up behind me and start reving their motors and laughing their heads off..I then join the reving because I'm sure their expecting an I4 jap sound, well being that I still have a stock can on my bike, the reving was not heard, not even by myself. Soooo the light turned green and a took off with my head hung low. Dan,(toona) you just had to go down south for a car show, if you were here(my wingman) I'm sure they would have raised an eye brow. I think its time for me to call oddie. |

Or Jardine! My Jardine is the throatiest, most wonderfully obnoxious pipe I've heard on a Buell. Very light too. It only weighs like 5lbs. No rust, much less weight, and a beautiful finish. |

You should've sat at the light after it turned green and made them go around you. Then........ |

I like waiting for that type of crowd to get beside me in the next lane so I can ride a standup right beside them. The last time I had a group of HDs behind me and I did that they were all asking how the hell I did that at the next light and begging me to do it again. |

Dude, maybe you should just buy a Hog if all you care about is making noise and impressing "bikers." It should have been YOU laughing when they pulled up behind you.

there's only one person that needs to be impressed with what you ride and that is YOU ! you will never "win" a contest with idiots because they have much more experiance (at being idiots ) than you do !! |

I had a bunch of Harley riders do the same thing to me when I was at a red light waiting to get onto an entrance ramp for the interstate. Then there was the drag race with their hotdog when the light turned green... except I wasn't racing. I did, however, catch a good wheelie when I shifted into second and passed the hotdog dude on one wheel. I can't wait to see them again. |

This is a repost from awhile ago, but it goes with this thread... ...I raced a Harley today, and after some really hard riding I finally managed to pass the guy. I was riding on one of those really, really, twisting sections of canyon road with no straight sections to speak of and where most of the curves have warning signs that say "15 MPH". I knew if I was going to pass one of those monsters with those big-cubic-inch motors, it would have to be a place like this where handling and rider skill are more important than horsepower alone. I saw the guy up ahead as I exited one of the turns and knew I could catch him, but it wouldn't be easy. I concentrated on my braking and cornering. Three corners later, I was on his fender. Catching him was one thing; passing him would prove to be another. Two corners later, I pulled up next to him as we sailed down the mountain. I think he was shocked to see me next to him, as I nearly got by him before he could recover. Next corner, same thing. I'd manage to pull up next to him as we started to enter the corners but when we came out he'd get on the throttle and outpower me. His horsepower was almost too much to overcome, but this only made me more determined than ever. My only hope was to outbrake him. I held off squeezing the lever until the last instant. I kept my nerve while he lost his. In an instant, I was by him. Corner after corner, I could hear the roar of his engine as he struggled to keep up. Three more miles to go before the road straightens out and he would pass me for good. But now I was in the lead, and he would no longer hold me back. I stretched out my lead and by the time we reached the bottom of the canyon, he was more than a full corner behind. I could no longer see him in my rear-view mirror. Once the road did straighten out, it seemed like it took miles before he passed me, but it was probably just a few hundred yards. I was no match for that kind of horsepower, but it was done. In the tightest section of road, where bravery and skill count for more than horsepower and deep pockets, I had passed him. Though it was not easy, I had won the race to the bottom of the canyon. I will always remember that moment. I don't think I've ever pedaled so hard in my life. And some of the credit must go to Schwinn, as well. They really make a great bicycle... |

It wasnt that I wanted to impress them, or I want their approval. Its just I know they were thinking it would sound like a crotch rocket...if it were loud in that same situation I would want them to ask me" what is that creature" and my response would be, if i told you, you wouldnt understand. |

The last time I fired her up at a gas station, I was parked off to the side, and needed gas. A group of "followers" just pulled in behind a "full custom pig". It sounded OK with semi-baffled pipes. I hit the button, and everyones head snapped clean off their neck. They all seemed to hang their heads in disbelief after that, as I rode up to the pump. Nobody spoke to me, looked my way, or even gave a nod of approval, or disapproval. Drummer Baby...not too loud, but sounds just right. |

Tank I know what you mean, I was down at the leesburg bikeweek deal 2 weekends ago now and mine was parked on the street with a bunch of chromed out H-D's by me and people were lookn at it as they walked by but it wasnt till I started it up to leave that I had what looked like 20 people behind me all pointing and talking to each other. I have a D&D on mine and love the low rumble from it. Chris, call Odie or Kevin. You really need to get a Pipe and Race ecm in your bike. Look what that did to your X1. You will be really happy with that combo on the 12S |

Riding through Ashbourne on Saturday afternoon, an MV F4 followed me through some slow traffic. God only knows what kind of exhaust it had, but it was like a sonic weapon, reverberating off the terraced houses and drilling into everyone's brain, mine included. It sounded like the third-of-a-Ferrari it really is, a frenzied whine like a dentist's drill connected to a PA system. And this was at 30 mph. I was so glad when it headed off down a side street |

Let 'em laugh, Chris. It's too bad that so many Harley owners have some weird Buell phobia. But, as my girlfriend once said to me, "It SHOULD say, 'Buell, American Motorcycles for the Well Endowed..." |

Fat kid in a candy shop I could throw thousands of dollars at an H-D to only ride it a few days a year.... wait I already did that. Those that ride the Buell understand, Some get it, some wont, so what, I have MY bike. Now , where does that dirt road go? |

Lead Wingman checking in... XB9er (Chris), Just remember, the only time they get to see a Buell is at a traffic light or stop sign, otherwise they are too far behind.... After all, they pulled up BEHIND you, right? I forgot to ask, how's the rear view camera working out? As for the story about the bicycle passing the HD in the canyons, I followed 3 HD's from the lookout at Deal's Gap to the reservoir on the north end. I had my Buell in neutral and coasted behind them at 35 mph, what a waste of a good road.... |

...the funny thing about the hard-core harley guys is a simple tale of... a hard-core racist being told the black guy he sees before him is the son of his own mother...I always wave to any other biker on the road, no matter what he/she is on. Yeah I don't always get waves from some of the harley guys but surprisingly I have met alot of them that are very interested in my Buell and receive alot of compliments on her from them. Personally I prefer the Harley guys(most of them), because they are alot of fun and tend to think the way I do vs. the crotch rocket crowd...anyway that's my .02 |

Wow after reading all of this I feel lucky. The H-D dealer here won't even get parts for me but whatever I'll use Andy from appleton. But alot of the Harley riders here seem much much more interested in my bike (05 xb9r) than laughing at it. One of the reasons I got a buell was because some of my friends ride H-d some ride Jap i4s. Here I seem to get along with both no problem. There are some A$$es of chromed out pigs but I just swerve around them or through them and be on my way. And there is a gsxr1000 that has it out for me. On a long twisty road Every straitaway he'd be gone but once in the twistyt sections I'd be right back in his rearview. He wasn't happy. Heck I got a nail in my rear tire and had to have some little shop in Vt fix it. (new tires now) But people there were really cool asking all sorts of questions about it and all. They were riding old real old bikes. They looked like 1930's or forties or something. No chrome no shiny engines yet LOUD AS h3ll. I'd rather feel kewl with those old timers than with some guy that doesn't even realize that buell is part HD. Just remember that they'll tell you their bike is all about attidude and how they personalize it to their tastes. Fat, loud, slow, and shiny... I'd rather have skinny. fast, and fun. |

I get waves from 99% of the Harley guys out there. There are a few who don't wave. Most of the time it's because they are shifting or whatever at the time. I think there are a few people who are much more enamored with the "lifestyle" than motorcycles. These are the folks who's HD clothes get more miles per year than their bikes. They like the idea of a Harley more than they actually like owning one. There aren't many like this, but there are some. Most HD folks I have met are as crazy about their bikes as we are about our Buells. The others? Well, do you really give a crap abut what some guy in a wife beater thinks? |

I got to "play" with a couple of modified HD's tonight. They zipped by me making all kinds of noise in a 45 zone. Then came the first red light, it turned green as we were about to put our feet down to stop. I was in first with my clutch out and whacked the throttle, the front came up about 2 and 1/2 feet, I let it back down and hit it again, it came up about 2 feet the rest of the way through first. I hit second and it came up about 2 feet for about half way through second and I could hear the noise behind me, but they didn't stand a chance. At the next light they came rolling up, revving their loud chromed out engines. This time from a stop I out ran them so bad they lost interest and came up to the next light a little less aggressively. I flipped up my shield and yelled over the loud pipes "what a great night for a ride". They were eying my full bagged Uly real hard then, and one of them yelled back "nice bike". Now that was special. |

Ok, bashing aside, a big part of many enthusiasts' joy is to hear the engine of the motorcycle. I'm guilty, I love the sound of the V twin. Heck, I love the sound of nearly all motorcycles. In line 4s, parallel twins, v twins, v fours, desmo engines, ohc engines, etc. Let's face it, the stock exhaust sounds like a flatulent cow. Yes, make yourself happy, get a performance exhaust. Not only will you open up the airflow a bit, it will sound good too. Yes, I have heard tubers with Force exhausts. Obnoxious indeed. The Jardine sounds a bit more refined. |

I thought you would have bought the Buell because it is different. Perhaps you need to buy a normal Harley so you can fit in with the Bad Attitude Boys that ride the big bikes.Who gives a shit how noisy your ride is compared to someone elses. The fact that your bike does not shit its pants everytime you look like rounding corner is reward enough. Long live King Erik. |
