The one I always use: Now can you find affordable insurance for that? Then I throw in, but how about for a 20 year old rider? They are still on the phone digging while I am walking out the door 30 minutes later. |

Now guys, sometimes an excuse is the truth. For more than a year, I told my local Harley salesman that I couldn't afford a bike. I couldn't, either. It was the first time in 21 years I didn't have a bike and the first time I didn't commute to work nearly every day on one. He kept making offers on 883s that were great, but I just didn't have any spare money. I was putting about $30 a paycheck away for awhile and got enough together to buy my Blast for $2,000 from the same Harley dealer. Called the salesman who'd put up with me for 16 months and said, you still got that Blast? I'll buy it. There was silence. Finally, he said, "um, OK." Now he's trying to get me to buy a Softail. I tell him I don't have any money...... |

I hear the MSRP thing all the time. I am surprised and amazed that how many people sitting in front of me, ready to by a bike don't know that the S stands for SUGGESTED. This is why different dealers will have different prices. It always pays to shop around. There are reasons we will go below MSRP, and there are times we never will. It is a vast improvement over 1996 when you put 3k down on a "reservation" for the chance to get a bike that was coming, because there were no bikes in stock. I should have a 96 FLSTF as well The string was started with the assumption that you have the want for a bike, may have an endorsement, have been in several times, maybe even have a credit approval, or even a demo; but still havent put one of E Troy's finest in your garage yet and my pent up frustration and lack of enough ~o) The one I keep hearing is its the weather! |

Here, have a grape, goes well with whine: ps, "by" s/b "buy" And I didn't buy a bike in 1996 even though I was in the market for one then. (Message edited by mikej on May 07, 2007) |

Side note: Daves, when he was still selling Buells (and anything else the dealership had to sell) didn't seem to have much trouble selling Buells in Appleton Wisconsin, which has weather a bit more extreme than the weather out west there in Silverdale Washington. Not to mention the fact that there are many more good roads for Buells out around the Olympics and Cascades and Hood Canal than can be found around Appleton (having lived in both regions I feel at least a little competent to speak on this point). Plus having ridden year round when I lived out west there, and having rode in snow but only parked the bike when the roads iced over, perhaps you should suggest they move to a more southern state if the weather is an issue for them. If you want to be sarcastic, then be sarcastic. You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar, but if your making salad dressing then vinegar will get you farther along. Plus I hate flies in my salads, they're much better when plastered to my helmet faceshield.

like mikej said, it is just my venting. I have my bike. I love the roads out in this area. There is no controlling the weather, so there ya go. The funny thing is I never here the ULY riders complaining about the weather Have 17 on the road from last year, 12 this year, down to only 6 left, I guess the answer is to quit bitchin and ride. Advice taken, I am off to ride. Buds1 is still in the lead Damn punchy cocky sales man seems to be running the lead. |

You realize of course that a ride without a followup ride reports and pics is a form or torture for those of us stuck at work in the flatlands. When is the ride up to the Mt. Olympus area open and ice-free enough for bikes? Would be neat to see a Buell with a mountain goat in the background, plus would make for an excellent marketing pic for a Uly. Or any Buell for that matter since mountain goats look so Buellish. (right click and hit properties to see googled picture sources) |

Here is what I had heard during my three years of selling Buells. All my friends ride (insert sportbike model/models here) I don't want to be made fun of. (Even though he rode the same XB9R 5 times during the demos.....) I don't want anything with a Sportster motor in it. I heard that the (XB's) front disc brake warps when you get it too hot. I now work for a multi-brand used motorcycle shop and I had a customer that was coming off of a Ninja 500 and wanted something with more power. We had a XB12scg (with a Buell Race Kit) that fit the customer perfectly. After the test ride, the excuse was: My neighbors are Harley riders and they said that Buells are chick bikes. I am 6'3", 305. I told the customer that I am on my second Buell, so what does that make me? The customer bought the cg and I have seen him three times since looking for one for his brother..... |

This one is true story from yesterday.... A friend says, "I want to wear short that is why I didn't ride the bike." I said, "Wear your pants and put the shorts in the baggage and change it when you get here." Lame excuse for fashion wear...... |

These ARE shorts, its just with my tiny legs, they go all the way down. ( from Calvin & Hobbes) Feel that way every time I get near a Ulysses. |

My neighbors are Harley riders and they said that Buells are chick bikes. Do most Harley riders even know what a Buell is? Isn't that the lame excuse all Harley riders say about every bike. I've put more miles on "girl bike" 883 Huger than any bike I've owned since then. I've owned an 883, s1w and a x1 all three together cost less than (i buy used) Harley yet provided equall to or more than FUN time and enjoyment. |

When someone says "Buells are chick bikes", a little balloon appears above their head (just like in the funnies) that says "I have a very small penis". |

OOOOOUCCH, Thats a reason, not an excuse, will let the missing bone and the hardwear joint by with a pass. OUUUUUCH again. There was a toyota commercial like that. Two girls scoping at this guy, he gets into a toyota and drives off. An equally Metro guy comes out of the building and gets into a Ferrari and they laugh and ask "wonder what he is compensating for" I think they got sued, because I havent seen that one in a while. |

Bah...Come on Wycked, I use my hands to put my left leg over the bike, velcro it down after positioning it on the peg, and installed an electric shifter to take care of business. My left leg is paralyzed. It is possible for nearly anyone with 2 working arms (or even 1 in some cases!) to get out and ride a bike if the proper accommodations are made and the person has the right attitude. I have already helped several other people that thought they could never ride figure out how to get back on a bike. I'd be more than happy to talk to you about what you need ans what is available, or even engineering and building the parts that are required and assembling a bike for you. I don't have the funding to pay for it, but I have the time, tools, and knowledge. You would have to supply the $ and the willpower. PM me and lets get you back on a bike. |
