How much discomfort does removing the heat shield get you? Not enough to take away from the nice, clean look? The tail mod is excellent. |

I removed my heat shield quite a few years ago - don't miss it a bit. As a matter of fact, test rode a new Uly this weekend. Was far more heat coming up into my thigh on the Ulysses than there is from my M2 without the heat shield. |

There is noticeably more heat, but IMO it's worth it to be able to see the motor better. Especially since I have removed so much other plastic from the rear. |

Thanks for all the compliments! The view from behind looks awesome. You can really see the tire now w/o the license plate and plastic distractions. How'd you paint your legs? How about your plastic? Did you just scruff it up a bit then use an adhesion promoter or what? Legs: lightly sanded and then painted w/Brake Caliper paint. Plastic: Again scruffed it up. No primer just the Camo Black. The can said it would bond to plastic, metal, etc. Not as durable as I was hoping for. The flat black doesn't like bugs. The oils soak in and change the color of the paint. Plus it scratches pretty easily. But at $4.84 a can...easy fix! The forks already have chips on them. I think I should have sanded more. Stock they have a clear coat and I didn't sand all the way through that. Maybe it would have helped to take off the clear completely? Or a different paint? I thought the brake caliper paint would be hold up. Overall, very pleased. It isn't a show bike. But it looks pretty badass! Eric |

You could use a flat clear coat to help protect the finish if you are worried about chips and such... |

You could use a flat clear coat to help protect the finish if you are worried about chips and such... Tattoodnscrewd, thanks for the advice. I didn't know there was a flat clear! Maxbuell - got a picture of your bike .... well - specifically wheels ? If you got other wheels - I might be interested in taking them off your hands ... but I could also offer up some ideas if you kept them .. (I have a detailing business - cosmetics like that are kinda my thing) His wheels came black .. lots of M2's came with black wheels ... mine did too - threw them on the S1 and the PM's on the M2 ... |

Tattood is correct. My wheels came black. I would think that powdercoat wouldn't cost too much. I am really cheap, so I would probably try painting them myself first. I have become one of your minions. Very creative and simple - my compliments to you. I like that you kept the hugger - it stands out really well with the bodywork trimmed away. I'm gathering the parts now for a naked conversion. I'd like to only run naked for special events where I know the rides will be short and fast - the bodywork gets in the way of my boots when I'm riding agressively. I'd still be able to go back to clothed because I need that heat shield for most of the riding I do in the deep South. Since I'm getting another tailpiece to cut (I got Erik's autograph on my stock one) and have another fuel tank, I'm thinking of getting another flyscreen and front fender so I can go to another color as well. I'll probably do a semi-gloss black to begin with, seeing as how it looks pretty good on your bike (and it's cheeeep). I'm not much of a follower of trends, but what you did is pretty cool. Have you given any thought to blacking out the engine? |

Thank you for the great compliments. I showed off some pics today at work and some of the girls thought it looked like a batman bike. That'll work! I like that you kept the hugger - it stands out really well with the bodywork trimmed away. I had taken the hugger off b/c it rubbed the left side of the tire when I went to a 180 rear. But if you look closely at the pictures you can see that I clearanced the hugger on the left side to avoid the widest part of the sidewall. I'll probably do a semi-gloss black to begin with, seeing as how it looks pretty good on your bike (and it's cheeeep). I would not suggest semi-gloss. I tried it on my CB750 and it looks like a got a really bad paint job. I had to spray a clear on it to fix it--now it's glossy If you don't want glossy I would go for FLAT black instead of semi. Just my 2 cents! I'm not much of a follower of trends, but what you did is pretty cool. Have you given any thought to blacking out the engine? Since I bought my M2 a year ago I have pretty much been copying what everyone does here. It's different having someone actually trend from my bike! Blacking out engine? Probably not. I really have been trying to make the engine and frame the focus of my bike w/o resorting to chrome or polish. Actually thinking about blacking the swingarm. kudos on the mods!!! Im a flat black fan myself and am currently scheming a new look for my recently acquired 2000 M2. All I can say is flat black base and semi gloss rally stripes.... But, as my boss looked over my shoulder to see what I was looking at I heard oohs and ahhs followed by, "Why the $hiteating grin, Travis?" "Cuz thats an M2, and that means MINE can look that badass, too!!!" |

It looks like your V&H is mounted wrong. Did you attach the bracket on the muffler to the "Z" bracket that was already on the bike? If so, remove the "Z" bracket and attach the "U" bracket that is attached to the V&H where the old "Z" bracket attached to on the motor/swingarm mount. |

So, I was thinking about the handshields xferd to my Cyclone about a month ago, but when I demo'd a Uly (just to appease my curiosity AND to get the bag- Im loyal to my M2!) they prohibited me from successfully braking and clutching. Ive got big mitts I guess... I guess a shave to the underside would fix this, but I didnt look hard enough to evaluate how I would swap them over. If you dont mind (I understand if you do- its cool) how did you install yours? |

If you dont mind (I understand if you do- its cool) how did you install yours? Just go to your local HD/Buell dealer, look at the parts book and order the plastic barends for the CityX/Uly and a couple bolts and screws. It is all stock Buell parts that bolt up just like the new Buells. Rather easy actually! They really help cut out the wind during the cold indiana winters when I try to ride every week It looks like your V&H is mounted wrong. Already on the bike when I bought it. Would you mind posting a pic of how yours is mounted. If so, remove the "Z" bracket and attach the "U" bracket that is attached to the V&H where the old "Z" bracket attached to on the motor/swingarm mount. Without looking at the bike, I am trying to understand. Are you saying that I just need to remove the black bracket that is right above the muffler? Thanks! Eric |

sorry I don't have a V&H to pic, but i hav einstalled a few and had to remount a few too LOL You pretty much got it, the "Z" bracket is the black metal bracket that attaches directly to the motor/swing arm mount. This needs to be removed. The black metal mracket that is attached to the V&H, the "U" bracket, needs to be re-mounted in the spot the "Z" bracket was. |
