yes, I would like to hear your numbers. IF you are stock and the ET is at least 320F idling at 1050 RPM then number one will fire about 7 degrees BTDC even when VDSTS indicates "0" advance. I have checked it many times.

It sounds like your TPS was reset without closing the Throttle completely prior to the reset. The Buell system requires that the throttle be completely closed and not at idle position prior to reset. TPS of 5.8 is more in the ball park.

There is not an error in the VDSTS that I am aware of. The VDSTS will show the same advance numbers regardless of where the CPS is set. Those numbers are programed into the ECM of the motorcycle. My observations of a 06 xb12x (Uly) were that when the VDSTS indicated that there was "0" advance on the number one cylinder and the "static" timing had been set according to the stock/factory setting then there was a disparity in what the VDSTS was reading and where the actual firing was taking place. The disparity was 7-9 degrees. I have not been able to secure enough timing data from the factory to find out if the disparity was intended by the factory, over looked by the factory or a potential error on the VDSTS software. I spent quite a bit of time in the shop with a variable timing light and a laptop hooked up to the bike with the engine running. I could read the output on VDSTS after dialing the TDC mark straight up and then comparing the timing light number to the laptop. There was a disparity. In short, what ever numbers the VDSTS reads out you must add at least 7 degrees to get the actual spark advance. If the CPS is set up according to the factory "static" procedure then the "dynamic" timing is not at "0" when the VDSTS indicates "0".

When I set my timing so that "0" on the VDSTS was "0" on the flywheel my pinging ceased. The engine spun up better and cold starting was improved (less kick back). The plugs looked good too. To answer your question, it was for mine.

Bike has modded airbox {07 slots added}and K@N filter other wise standard,Done 6450 miles,Rest TPS.{ Was 4.1} Run bike up to Temp 160 C , set idle apprx 1100{it varies between 1080 and 1140}both timing reading 0. TPS 5.5 eng off 5.8 running.

Your numbers look very good. The timing will tick down to zero right at 160C/320F and your TPS of 5.8 @ 1040 is great. By looking at your TPS and idle speed I can conclude that your timing is set at or very near to the stock setting. The timing read out on the software may indicate the ECM's timing map, but where the actual firing is taking place in terms of degrees of advance BTDC on the flywheel is most likely not "0". That location is determined by the initial setting of the CPS. I "speculate" that it is some where between 7-9 degrees BTDC which is where the stock setting will place it when VDSTS reads "0". Is your engine performing well? Do you know what your AFV is?

Bike runs great,went to Italy last year thru the Alps and it was great,adv fuel con 56 miles per UK gal,usually run 170 miles to fuel light.i reset the AFV today .will check it out after a couple of rides and get back to you.
