Just had to share this. Got a call today from a patient that he was in a motorcycle accident and wanted to be seen by the doctor to make sure he didn't break his wrist. When he got to the clinic I asked him what happened. Here's the story: He was on a bike that wasn't working, being towed by his son driving a truck. The tow rope was around the forks and as they came to a corner the patient yelled out to his son to "slow" down. The son thought he heard him say "go". So, around the corner they went, hit some gravel and the bike went down. It was all I could do not to laugh. The moral of the story is "to have better communication when you're being towed"

Of course I did it once, out dirtbiking and my buddy drowned his 4 stroke and didn't want to leave it back in the bush. Was ugly but I would tow him (slowly) till I got him to the crest of the hills then he could coast down. Luckly were way up a mountain side so the majority was downhill. |

The most hair raising time of my life. It was 1966, my X-wife pulled my Norton across New Orleans with a 426 Hemi. Useing parachute cord it was like being puled with a 25 foot bungie cord. she would turn a cornor slow then haul ass when I turned the cornor it would sling shot me around the corner like a rocket. |

When we were about 14, my buddy got a honda 65, and a limited MC lic. My Mother, an avowed motorcycle hater, made me promise to never get on the back of that bike. Being a good kid, I followed her orders, and rode all over creation at 50 mph , on my bicycle, holding a rope tied to the back of his Honda. Nothing like being safe and cautious. |

Having been forced by circumstance to be, at one time or another, at one end of the rope or other, I/we always ran the rope under the upper triple clamp, around the bar once or twice, and held the loose end with the left hand. If the towee felt uncomfortable, let go. The rope pulled free, everyone stopped and regrouped, and tried again. |

There is a semi-safe way to tow a bike. Akbuell is close. The problem is that when your tow point is up high on the bike, it gets weird in a turn. Wrap the rope around the left footpeg a couple of times and hold it on with your foot. Raise your foot to release it. Simple. Then there is "peg pushing". Not so simple but it has worked for me a couple of times. |

My friend Bunko(John Romero) had a Suzuki 50 Gaucho that took a crap aways from the house, I had a bungee cord so I hooked one end of it to the fender brace of my Honda SL70 and the other end to his handle bars and with me sitting way up on my gas tank almost to the bars I started towing. Well it worked....for a while, it streched and we were towing along when I suddenly went ahead and I heard a loud scream. I looked back and saw Bunko with his shirt torn open and he was holding his sturnum, after I coaxed him to remove his hands from the injured area there was a grapefruit sized red welt there. 35 years ago and I can still see it plain as day. |

Swampy, I am laughing as I type this- As I read your post I knew that one of the two of you was going to get the bad end of a stretched bungee. I glad that welt did not end up on your back. I see it in my mind so clear. LOL. Andrew |

Tramp We're not all idiots here, we tried pushing my bike, but the rope just wadded all up. I think you would have the same problem with a MC. Maybe a chain would work, but it would scratch your bike up. Rotzaruck!!! |
