So I picked up my 05 XB 12R for the shop today and rode it home today (250km all terrain-traffic-highway-rain soaked mountain pass) and I was impressed with the bike except for the saggy brakes and this front end shudder at low speed while braking. I jack the front end up when i get home and shake the forks back and forth thinking maybe I have broken steering bearings. It turns out, the forks are shaking (moving back and forth in the top bridge.Someone hasnt done them up tight enough. I tightened them a little but don't want to over tighten them. I dont have the manual yet so i dont know the correct torque for the bolts that clamp the forks at the top. Could someone please help me out. I need the torque specs for the bottom ones to cause i want to check them too. cheers Paul (Message edited by paul_in_japan on April 28, 2007) |

I tighten them, tight enough. I'm sure there's a torque spec for them, but I've never used it. Check other bolts, your steering head & axle nuts & such. Actually with the Buell, I do that every couple of weeks or so anyway. |

The manual says: Use Locktite 272 and tighten upper fork clamp fasteners to 17-19 ft-lbs Use Locktite 272 and tighten lower fork clamp to 13-15ft-lbs I should add that I took that info from my XB9R (2003) manual. I do not believe the front fork assembly is different for a 12 or has changed until 2007. cheers Asbjorn (Message edited by doerman on April 28, 2007) |
