I will offer my sincere apologies in advance for my lack of current information on this topic . . .  . . .butt, as I have recently returned to the ranks of the Tuberistas, I need to get information on the current state of affairs with reference to the Showa shocks . . .with a particular focus on the later offering. Toward that end . . . 1) Is the later Showa (once known as the K1400) rebuild-able? I have heard differing opinions on the early Showa . . .and wondered if anyone had better success in having the later one rebuilt/reset? 2) Is the only difference between the shocks K1400 Showas offered for various Tubes the length/type of front bracket? 3) Is anyone offering an aftermarket front bracket that will allow any K1400 to bolt up to a T'Bolt (1996 S2T) I appreciate any information that will raise my level of current knowledge from the abysmal depths of ignorance and Alzheimer's . . 1. I don't know 2. M2 low shock was shorter I believe all the others were just rated weight range, but I maybe wrong.. Front brackets on the later showas were all the same from what I have compaired... 3. The later showa will work on a S2 but the bike will sit a bit higher without a load. Not sure on what maybe available as far as after market brackets.. There was a recall kit just for the S2 with the later showa.... | ||

Todd . . . Thanks for the information. Question: Was there an additional/supplemental recall kit after the B035A of Nov. 20, 2000? As near as I can figure, the kit detailed in B035A was for " S2/S2T/1999-2000 S3/S3T: Part No. K1400.8" . . .and was a little surprised to find that it was not the same kit that I put on my 1998 S3T. I also noted the later recall for the preload adjustment nut . . .which may also apply. Since my daily driver is the Uly, I (for once!) have the luxury of taking my time with the S2T work . . .if I cannot find the K1400.8 kit or its equivalent at a reasonable/rebuild-able price I may just move on to one of the full-on aftermarket rear shock offerings. What the group consensus for the BEST S-2 suspension? To be perfectly honest, I'm not sure exactly what I have. The factory took my bike in a couple years ago and updated everything but . . it's not like R&D provides a receipt. Having just made a substantial investment, it may be a prudent time to do the suspension. Is there an Öhlins set up for the S-2? What would you put on yours? And what about the front end? I'm thinking a trip to Traxxion Dynamics. | ||

The Showas are rebuildable and can be set-up for your riding style by good suspension shops. And the front forks benefit from the same treatment.I had all mine done by Aftershocks in Palo Alto CA. The S-2 with the redone Showa went north to Sportyeric. My original/current S-2 has a Penske from Al. He had it on sale one year when he came up to our A.S.B.N december meeting. |
