okay, I use my ipod to ride, but it is tough with my Arai and the Uly as there is alot of noise and my ipod is on the max volume. What do you all suggest, I am considering a chatterbox but I would like to use mt own ipod headphones and it does not like that. is there a device that would only amplify my ipod? How do the noise cancelation phones work? |

You should try a sound isolating ear phone like Shure's. |

Just wait till the next ipod comes out. It wires into your body, connects directly to your ear drums and eye lids. If you want to watch a podcast you just close your eyes and think of what you want to see. Or music you just think of it and it makes it all you can hear! Coming out in 2010. This might not have sounded crazy in 1984 |

You should try a sound isolating ear phone like Shure's. I'll second that. Shures are the way to go. |

I have the etymotic er6i, and they are awesome as a combination ear plug and in ear speaker. You can have the volume much lower, which is good for your ears. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0002ZW5W4/ ruggedelegance1059-20/ref=nosim?gclid=CIKliJOg2osC FR6AWAodfi9VaQ |

Has any one tried external speakers like on a big HD? My son has a Road King with a very small windshield and he says he can hear his just fine even with fairly loud pipes. I am just wondering because I have been unable to find headphones that are comfortable and loud enough. I haven't tried the Shure's yet. |

Just say no to external speakers. Either the Shures or Etymotics, or maybe just some earplugs and the voices in your head...but no external speakers. |

I dont particularly care to share in the music of someone on a bike with it cranked up. Just say no to a mobile ghetto blaster. |

I had the external speakers on my uly. With a helmet that went over the ears I couldn't hear anything above 50 mph with wind noise. Really useless took them off after about 3 days. Don't spend the money. they came with my harley so I didn't mind installing them but they are junk not worth the money. |

Buy.com has the etymonic er6i's for $69 minus $10 if you use google checkout. Mine work great even though they cost more than my mp3 player. I can use the same volume on a bike on plane that I do listening in the house. http://www.buy.com/prod/etymotic-er6i-blk-b-isolat or-earphones-black/q/loc/101/204166579.html |

If you have your ipod turned up all the way you should be thinking about serious ear damage down the road. Imagine how loud that is and for an extended period of time it will deafen you. Then you won't need an ipod. Get some ear plugs type of headphones or lose your hearing. No brainer. |

This is what I use http://www.cep-usa.com/index.htm with my ipod shuffle velcroed to the inside of my full face helmet. Military specs for noise reduction works really well! I'm a Blackhawk helicopter crewchief and use this CEP daily and won't fly with out them. I took a jumper headphone jack and inserted it the vent whole in the back of my helmet. Put the ear plugs in, then the helmet and plug in the back. I was tired of the other headphone cords getting in the way I did rewire the CEP connector for a headphone jack. My shuffle is only turned up half way and I have the race kit installed. |

Here's my rant. What is it with people that have to be listening to music 24/7. You ever have to get one of these folks attention when they have the ipod going with the ear buds in. It's as if they are projecting the fact that no one should talk to them because they are in their own special musical filled world. These are the same folks that pull the buds and then slam the cell phone to their ear. What is wrong with these people? Maybe I'm the one who's nuts but this drives me crazy. You don't need to be listening to music while you are supposed to be paying attention to the physical world while you are riding. But be my guest and piss away your hearing while turning your ipod's volume through the roof. |

I've taken to riding with my ipod over the past few weeks or so. I'm still using the OEM earbuds that came with the ipod. They work well enough up to around ~60mph or so (which I rarely exceed on my commute). I like that they don't really block outside noise, so I can still hear what's going on around me at low speeds. The problem is that they do nothing to block wind noise, so if I get much over 60mph they're useless unless I turn it up to a painful volume level. The bigger problem is that I listen to a lot of podcasts, so at higher speeds I have a hard time hearing what the speaker is saying. |

Music/audio is a disease?? You might have to go beyond selling your Uly to avoid it, it's spread beyond the Buell brand. It's affected every single known vehicle manufacturer on the planet. |

I use the Shure E3's and love them, but they are not cheap! While in Alabama a few months ago I went to visit the company who makes the military CEP's that "Rotorhead" mentioned above, and I was very impressed with them. I will probably try them in the future. I have also just purchased a new Autocom intercom system that I will connect my music through. I went with the Autocom for several reasons, one of which was because it was the only system that I could find where you not only have helmet speakers, but you can also use in-ear monitors. I probably will not bother with the ear phones on short trips (10-15 minutes), but for the longer rides or commutes I will use them. |

Eglider, I use the ER6i for wind noise reduction as much as music. I dont have it blasting, just gives me something to listen to 4 or 5 hours into a ride. I did it on a beemer, and would on any other bike I ride. I use them to reduce the noise on planes when I fly. It isnt about blasting loud music, it is keeping the bad noises down for me, and also getting music as a bonus. |

+1 ER6i I got mine on Amazon, but the Buy.com deal sounds even better. I may just buy another set - one for the bike and another in the briefcase for the plane! |

Check out the Autocom comparison page: http://www.autocomamerica.com/comparisons.cfm All three current models are compatible with in-ear monitors. All you need is the optional "In-Ear Speaker Headset Extension Lead", which comes either straight or as a coiled patch cable (part 1187 and 1188). This stills connects to the helmet speakers (if you want), but also gives you a 3.5mm connector to use your in-ear monitors. I'm going to work on the installation this week, I'll let you know how it works. |

Just say no to external speakers. Either the Shures or Etymotics, or maybe just some earplugs and the voices in your head...but no external speakers. I'll second that, custom moulded earplug speakers are more comfy than the ER6s, for me at least. I have an autocom, never use it. Wasn't all I thought it would be. I can't imagine riding long distances without some earplugs. The earplug speaker types are the only way to fly for music. |

here is a link to some instructions for making the Koss "the Plug" actually useful: http://headwize.com/projects/showfile.php?file=cmo y4_prj.htm It works great. I did not do the acoustical damping. Your results may vary of course. |

You'll love the E3's. They come will several different ear inserts, I prefer the yellow foam ear pieces. If you like the yellow foam too, then you may want to order a bag of replacement foam inserts as they do not last forever. |
