You sold the stunt bike? WTF? That is some BS Thunder! Cops suck! They shouldn't be able to use private vehicles to increase revenues. I can just imagine the conversation. "You know, tax income is down this year so we just don't have the funding we used to. Well, I guess we can be really sneaky about giving out more tickets in order to get that funding back." What a bunch of ass hats. Stuff like that makes me want to go back to super squid style. It's almost time to trade off the Buell in order to pick up a new R1, GSXR 1K, ZX10R or 1000RR so I can run it with no insurance or tags and flip the cops off as I run from them. Something like that blacked out, with quite exhaust, all black gear and light kill switches is impossible to catch. With programs like this it is no wonder people on bikes that are fast enough don't stop for pigs. (Message edited by Olinxb12r on April 17, 2007) |

Lowflyer Public Service Announcement: Pardon me for my reaction to the shooting rampage at VT. Did anyone else notice that the cops rolled up on the campus, surrounded the building, and hid behind their cars while the gunman just kept shooting people inside? They waited until the shooting stopped before going in and counting up the bodies. I believe this should prove to you that the guns they carry are intended for their own protection; NOT yours. If you guys don't already have a CCH, quit acting like the rest of the sheep and go get one. End of rant. Anybody riding this week? Man, it's beautiful outside!!! |

Hey flyer, I know what you mean, but don't be to quick to judge. The shooter had chained all of the doors from the inside. The entire squad doesn't gather around the door and wait for one person to open them. One or two open the doors while the others take cover. Once the doors where opened, they all filed in. Unfortunately, the shooter moved quickly and there wasn't much for the cops to do by this point. It appeared the cops hid in the bushes for a long time because the news kept showing the same three minutes of footage over and over again. I don't know exactly how long they stayed there, but I guarantee you they were not hiding in waiting for the gunfire to stop. I have a little experience being a cop, and I can tell you that I would be much quicker to use my firearm against a person hurting someone else than I would if they were attacking me (unless they are shooting, then they are going down just as fast either way). Cops are trained how to defend themselves using less-than-lethal force. They beat the 'threat matrix' into your skull during training. Quite literally. And anyone that thinks carrying a gun makes you safer is very wrong. You are much more of a target. People get nervous and twitchy around you and are more likely to do something stupid. Sorry, not trying to be preachy or start an argument, I'm just trying to give more information so you can all make an informed judgment. I get my hands on quite a bit of good info where I currently work and it appears that the news channels are doing what the always do. Give it their own spin. No problem Rob. I see both sides quite clearly. I didn't mean to sound flippant towards LEs. I was just speaking to the reality of the situation. LE's are not really able to protect so much as they are able to show up and take notes after the innocent person was killed or maimed. It's not the LEs' fault. That is just the way it is. You can't be everywhere. Too many people want to rely on LEs for their personal protection. That is not reality either. This is pure speculation, but if one person in one of the rooms attacked had had a firearm the outcome would have had a gnat's ass chance of being better for at least one of the dead or injured. As it is, nobody in the building had less than 100% probability of being shot with no way to fight back. Anybody that wants to line up and be slaughtered because they are lulled into a false sense of security by gun bans has my baaahh...baaahhh...blessing. Just leave me to handle my own security. Having a gun alone does not make one safer. Having a gun and training with it regularly will indeed make one safer than not having one at all. Thanks to Uncle Sam, I am living Goddamn proof of that. Even if the relative safety were equal, I would rather have one for the chance that I might be able to defend myself. Sam, You are correct. This is what they were supposed to do: What to Do When Violence Occurs • Try to stay calm. Raising your own voice may increase the anxiety of a potentially violent person. • Speak slowly, softly, and clearly to reduce the momentum of the situation. • Listen empathetically by really paying attention to what the person is saying. Let the person know that you will help them within your ability to do so or you will send for additional help. • Do not agree using distorted statements or attempt to argue. • Avoid defensive statements. This is not the time to place blame on the enraged person. • Ask the belligerent person to leave the area and come back when they feel calmer. • Ask questions to help regain control of the conversation. • Ask uninvolved parties to leave the area if this can be done safely. • Use the prearranged code word to alert your coworker(s) to call the Campus Police. • Never challenge, try to bargain, or make promises you cannot keep. • Describe the consequences of any violent behavior. • Avoid challenging body language such as placing your hands on your hips, moving toward the person, or staring directly at them. If seated, remain in your chair and do not turn your back on the individual. • Do not physically touch an outraged person, or try to force them to leave. • Move away from any object, such as scissors or heavy objects that could be used as a weapon. • Calmly ask the person to place any weapons in a neutral location while you continue to talk to them. • Never attempt to disarm or accept a weapon from the person in question. Weapon retrieval should only be done by a police officer. http://www.ehss.vt.edu/Programs/OSD/Emergency%20Pl anning/workplaceviolence.htm Apparently, for the 32 dead students at least, none of the bullshit above worked very well. They were not well served by the gun ban either. The gunman apparently didn't get the memo on the gun ban. He had a building full of targets and no worries at all about any sort of resistance. Life is cheap I reckon. LFout... |

I took the rear wheel off the X1W today and will have Engles mount the Pirelli Diablo I bought from them tomorrow. I need a new set of brake pads for the rear, so I will see if I can get some at Alter Ego tomorrow morning. I have a new set of front pads sitting in my tool box I bought off ebay. I will try to get them put on as well. Hopefully get the X1W out and ride to work regularly with fresh tires and brakes.. I need to pull the engine out of the FXR and doo a bunch of stuff, fix oil leaks, new oil lines, fix and paint a dent on my front fender, powdercoat refinish some parts. I am thinking about having my rocker covers powdercoated as well as some other crappy looking chromed parts I have like the fork brace clamp and my primary cover also has alot of pretty bad looking finish spots on it, I might just powdercoat it also. Band has been recording, we lost one of our songwriters when my good friend Pete Shifflett died last Thursday when he passed a pulmonary embolism in the recovery room after a shoulder repair surgery. We were real tight, it sure hurts to lose a good friend. I know you guys understand. As soon as I get one of my bikes ready to ride I will be out around town. I got fired from my job this afternoon, that always sucks. I am tempted to go out to California to see my grandson before I try to find another job, I might get to take my Buell out there with me for some twisty roads in Mendocino county while I am there if I drive instead of fly. Also if I drive I am going to go do some prospecting while I am there. Looking forward to catching up with you guys out around town, everybody be safe and look out for all those monster assed chugholes around KC right now. If anyone wants to throw a big party, let me know and I will be glad to bring the band out and entertain. Ya'll be fast and agile Rusty |

Wow Rusty. Hard times suck. Sorry to hear about your friend. Sorry for going all Charlton Heston on you guys. I'm just sick with grief and anger over that murderous rampage. It hits sort of close to home for me. I'm looking forward to another AR bike trip. |

Lawrence has my kickstand bolt on the way. Hopefully I'll get it tomorrow, it's just too bad having the new bolt doesn't mean I'll get to ride. I've got to write a 15 page research paper and study for two finals this weekend. Thank God I'm dropping to part-time again in a week! Duff, WTF. Why did you sell the stunt bike? |

James, in my best Andrew Dice Clay voice..... Drake, Duff, What's the difference? eeehhhh also don't know if you'ne seen this but it's mildly amusing: Top Ten Reasons Why Harley Riders Don't Wave Back 10. Afraid it will invalidate warranty. 9. Leather and studs make it too heavy to raise arm. 8. Refuse to wave to anyone whose bike is already paid for. 7. Afraid to let go of handlebars because they might vibrate off. 6. Rushing wind would blow scabs off the new tattoos. 5. Angry because just took out second mortgage to pay luxury tax on new Harley. 4. Just discovered the fine print in owner's manual and realized H-D is partially owned by Honda. 3. Can't tell if other riders are waving or just reaching to cover their ears like everyone else. 2. Remembers the last time a Harley rider waved back, he impaled his hand on spiked helmet. 1. They're too tired from spending hours polishing all that chrome to lift their arms. Top Ten Reasons Why Gold Wing Riders Don't Wave Back 10. Wasn't sure whether other rider was waving or making an obscene gesture. 9. Afraid might get frostbite if hand is removed from heated grip. 8. Has arthritis and the past 400 miles have made it difficult to raise arm. 7. Reflection from etched windshield momentarily blinded him. 6. The espresso machine just finished. 5. Was actually asleep when other rider waved. 4. Was in a three-way conference call with stockbroker and accessories dealer. 3. Was distracted by odd shaped blip on radar screen. 2. Was simultaneously adjusting the air suspension, seat height, programmable CD player, seat temperature and satellite navigation system. 1. Couldn't find the "auto wave back" button on dashboard. Top 10 Reasons Sport Bike Riders Don't Wave: 10. They have not been riding long enough to know they're supposed to. 9.They're going too fast to have time enough to register the movement and respond. 8. You weren't wearing bright enough gear. 7. If they stick their arm out going that fast they'll rip it out of the socket. 6. They're too occupied with trying to get rid of their chicken strips. 5. They look way too cool with both hands on the bars or they don't want to unbalance themselves while standing on the tank. 4. Their skin tight-Kevlar-ballistic-nylon-kangaroo-leather suits prevent any position other than fetal. 3. Raising an arm allows bugs into the armholes of theirtank tops. 2. Its too hard to do one-handed stoppies. 1. They were too busy slipping their flip-flop back on. Top Ten Reasons Why BMW Riders Don't Wave Back 10. New Aerostich suit too stiff to raise arm. 9. Removing a hand from the bars is considered "bad form." 8. Your bike isn't weird enough looking to justify acknowledgement. 7. Too sore from an 800-mile day on a stock "comfort" seat. 6. Too busy programming the GPS, monitoring radar, listening to ipod, XM, or talking on the cell phone. 5. He's an Iron Butt rider and you're not! 4. Wires from Gerbings is too short. 3. You're not riding the "right kind" of BMW. 2. You haven't been properly introduced. 1. Afraid it will be misinterpreted as a friendly gesture. |

Any of the blackfoot crew going to be around tonight? I got my kickstand bolt in today, and my car is in the body shop. Once I get the bolt in I need to put the bike up on a front stand to figure out what is up with the front brake. If anyone is going to be around give me a call. Later. |

So the missus and I are heading east (via pickup truck) to NYC and DC. Where are the better Buell dealers along the way? Looks like the BWB sponsor, Liberty Buell in Rahway, NJ may be worthy of a stop. Any other "must sees"? Thanks. |

Cost? I would be interested in trying to improve my ability in a controlled environment. I dont have full leathers though and I dont think I could come up w/ the money for them by then. Beside hartland have you tried the midamerican motorplex track? What other tracks do you attend in the midwest? I need to get my sh1t together and get a trailer as well. Hopefully by next year I will have the gear, trailer and track day money saved up so I can attend a event or two each month. |

Believe me...this little sport we have chosen to get involved in is EXPENSIVE! Heartland Park charges $165 for a track day. Plus, I have spent thousands of dollars on gear, trailer, parts, stands, etc... You might be able to borrow some leathers or just take the plunge and buy some. The only two tracks I have ran at are Hallett in Jennings, Oklahoma and HPT. Hallett is the cheaper of the two. If you are serious about it, definitely try it! |
