So on a short trophy run last Sunday I pull out and around a couple having quality time on their FLH's, wicking it up after passing them I spot a FZ1 in my CRG's and then of course toss the Lightning into the next corner like I mean it. Pulling a lead, up ahead I see a herd of 200+ elk alongside the road so I pull to the right and grab the binders slowly not wanting to have the FZ modify my cheese grater. He slows too and just in time as the local unmarked Dodge Magnum interceptor comes by just after we scrubbed off 110mph or so. The FZ rider thanks me and we get after it again in a all out drag race from about 10mph. The Lightning did pretty well pulling the front end up and then quieting down by the time I was half way through third gear the FZ was on his way by and showing me his tail light at around a hundred or so. I was hoping to give him the Valentino move and late break on the next corner but it was a T intersection with a stop sign so no luck there. I learned my lesson and wont try any straight line stuff with a R1 knock off but it was fun trying. Just thought I would share. |

After about 100mph you might as well give up. |

Where is the fun in not giving in to a little high speed tag? Besides more often than not out here in Colorado there are plenty of corners. There really is no looser just fun to push the bike a little and yourself. I like exploring curvy back roads, my and the bikes limits when it is safe, and victory is that much sweeter when it wasn't a sure thing. |

oh bring on the curves!! it's those straights that get ya. 130 downhill with a tailwind can't compete with 140 in 4th gear with 2 to go. |

Nice write up - FZ1s are not to be trifled with Those CB1300s are fast. And those Z1000s. Don't forget those SV1000s either, they go pretty fast. And those Benelli TNTs and MV Brutales. And those KTMs. And those...<snip> |

The nice thing about losing hole shots is that you get to pass them in the turns . That's more fun IMO . |

Favorite thing is to take a wolf pack on a ride, let them "school" me on the straights, but when the final turn comes to Devils run, I hit the dirt and accelerate to 50 while they are stopped dead in their tracks and have to take the long way around. Devils run 6 miles of 66 turns Get on with the Bendy and Dirty. 50mph on dirt is the new tonne. |

I've got a first gen FZ1. In the restricted stock form they dyno at 120 rwhp. With just a jet kit and slip-on your looking at an easy 130 rwhp. But yeah, pretty much any of the Japanese liter bike standards are going to out horsepower the Buells. |

Around here its mainly twisties...I have never lost where the road has a turn, I can stay on the gas, brake late, downshift as I'm braking then pull out early with the torque monster...and have hit 142 on the GPS with no problem but yea that last 10 MPH is slow, could be my lack of aerodynamics with a big backpack on... |

On Sunday I turned the tide. I caught and passed a ZZR 1200. Not without effort, but the XB12S was in her prime teratorry with lots of turns and, "schooled" the big Kaw in point and shoot "riding the torque out". Showing him the front wheel on the inside as I used the Mesafirebolt late braking technique he realized he was in trouble. At the end of the road I pulled to the side and when he pulled up his most memorable comment was, "Im carrying allot of weight" How true and 150HP. Which did him no good since his lines sucked. It was all good fun and dicing it up on a sunny mountain road here in Colorado with no traffic, no cops, there is no loser just a great ride. By the way, no matter what you ride there is always someone faster than you, stand by to be schooled at some point, enjoy it and learn. |

I say my rhymes loud and I playz em non stop. I could do rap if I werent a no talent hack from a redneck family, with no rhythm and harbored some gangsta angst about growing up out on the mean fields. I remember when rap was the $hit your parents told you to turn down.... when did I become the old sucka that cant stand da new dope ? Turn dat 5hit down! |
