You can hear him chop the throttle mid corner there to slow for the car, but what happened? Probably dirt/sand on the OUTSIDE of the corner. Shoot, I've never seen sand THERE before.

You can hear him chop the throttle mid corner there to slow for the car, but what happened?

go back and watch it again a couple of times - he's turning his head to look at the camera as he goes by. Then when he gets back to looking where he's going he has a face full of car & runs wide to avoid it and hits gravel on the shoulder.
