Okay, the time has come to trade my '07 XB12R for something more appropriate for my "once in a lifetime" trip that I've been planning with some friends. I'm planning to ride from NJ to Moab, Utah in September, and therefore I've decided to sell my 12R and maybe purchase a Ulysses. What do you guys think I should sell it for? Should I just post it on the classifieds? Paul |

knew a guy that rode his uly back from sturgis to tampa and said it was one of the best rides he had ever had. the only other bike that i know he has is a vrod but i'm more than sure that he had quite a few other's than them. i wish i had the space and the money cause i really like the bananabolt. maybe one day though. go for the uly. |

Keep the R, buy the uly(hopefully used), make the trip, and then sell the uly when you get back. I would guess you are going to loose the same amount either way. The question is what bike do you want more when you return? |

Why do you want to sell it for? It's an '07. You will loose a ton of money! The Firebolt is probably better suited to high speed cruising in the open deserts than any of the Buells including the Uly. No offense to Uly owners. I plan to sport-tour on my Firebolt. I feel that at speeds above 80 mph, it makes for a great ride. The windblast equalizes the aggressive riding position very well at highway speeds. |

This maybe a stupid idea but have looked into renting a bike you might be able to rent a nice cruiser for the trip and keep the bike you love for around town riding |

No need to sell the 12R..I have a 9R and have done some touring on it. You only need to change a few things and it will be perfect. Change the pegs to the lower pegs..by the Buell Custom seat, double bubble windscreen, and some bags and you are set..You do not need to buy something less. If you want the handle bars higher you can change that too. I think there is some by Heil or something like that.. Do a search lots of guys use the 12R or the 9R for touring... The 12R will do everything. |

I took my xb12r from buffalo,ny to homecoming last year. I put the lower pegs on but went back to the normal pegs....more comfortable. Instead of getting Buell custom seat try the air hawk these things rule. After 550+ mile rides my butt still feels like new. http://www.shapefitting.com/category.aspx?category ID=54 I went with the touring windscreen instead of the double bubble, but either one will make a big difference. I also order the medium motofizz tail bag from aerostich. I fit 2 weeks worth of cloths, my leather jacket(with armor), and extra riding pants(with armor). I also have the buell saddle bags, they do not hold much but enough for the day to day stuff you need when you stop and your rain gear. Not sure how big you are but I am 5' 8" 230 pounds, I can assure almost everybody thought I was going to die on the trip, but I loved it and was glad I made the trip and got a new license plate XB12RT afterwards to go with my new willingness to ride the bike on long trips. Not saying the Ully might not be a better bike for the ride, but do not over look xb12r. PM me and I would be more than will to give more details on what I bought for my trip and what I might due differently for my next long trip. sorry kinda all over the place in this post. |

Rent from Liberty. In fact, I may be able to work a neat deal with you. Keep me posted on what your schedule is. Figure on taking a huge hit on a trade/sale. You'd be better to buy two bikes, keep them for 3 years and then sell both. Court |

Paul- Good talking with you about the Buell or Beemer question. Sure, the R1150R is a good road trip machine, but you might do better financially making the Uly trade you mention, or equipping the XB12R for distance duty with the Heli or Spiegler kits. You didn't mention Moab during our call... I'm meeting my brother in Utah during September to witness the Salt Flats racing, then down towards the national park region for a day. Bro and I will be riding BMWs, but Buell rumble would be welcome addition! Mark Oregon |

Thanks for all the options and info. I know I will be taking a hit on the 12R, but unfortunately I can't have both! I would love to keep both though... My "loving" development where I live only allows 1 bike per household... they already gave me some grief for my beautiful Drummer, and so I had to sell it this week. Now I don't even have a stock muffler, so I can't ride my bike. I'm trying to find a used stock muffler, but I've not had any luck - anyone has a spare one for sale? Getting back to the sale of my 12R, do you think $9K is reasonable? Spoke to Anthony from Liberty, and the trade-in offered was ok, but slightly below what I would like. I'm not even sure how to sell a motorcycle, but I have to get this moving fast. Not many months before my trip. Thanks again, Paul PS Mark, I thought I had told you about Moab. I was there last year and I loved it, and after some friends heard about my "adventure" in Moab, they also want to visit it, and so this trip became a reality. Great talking to you on the phone! |

Buelladdicted: My "loving" development where I live only allows 1 bike per household... I'd be moving.. So technically if you and your SO both had bikes you wouldn't be able to live in this development? Just curious as I haven't seen/heard anything like that before. Mark, thanks for calling me yesterday - I really appreciate that. Sorry for not getting back to you sooner, and yes, I'm very satisfied with the service done on the bike. As for renting a bike, although its a cool idea, I don't think I would be able to relax knowing the bike is not mine. Its just a personal thing... Also, I think it would be prohibitively expensive. I'm going to take off about 4 weeks, travel many, many miles, etc. I'm going to think over this weekend, and then next week I'll decide what to do. There are 2 brands that I am considering, and I'm going to test ride both very soon. I understand I'll be taking a huge hit on the bike, but someone will get an '07 12R at an incredible price! Talk to you soon, Paul Doon: Actually I am lucky - one of my co-workers lives across the street in a similar development, and he can't even park the bike there. He has to park it on the street! |
