New to site. I have a 95 buell S-2 I love that is carburated with vance and hines exhaust and a kuryakan intake I recently purchased a 99 S-3 Thunderbolt EFI with 500 original miles I started it up and much to my dismay it sounded like a potato was stuck up the exhaust(I am from Idaho) I can not deal with the stock muffler sound can someone suggest a muffler to help this out. Do I need to change the intake to match and the Racing ecm or can I just add a slip exhaust to at least get me started. Does kuryakan make a intake Aircleaner for this or can someone recommend another they prefer. It has a Aircleaner the size of two loafs of bread mounted to the side.

You can get away with a K&N and slip-on, but would best be suited with at least a race ecm, K&N, and slipon of your choice. You can also opt for a different intake with a K&N if the breadbox is not your style.

I started out with just a Vance & Hines pipe and a K&N filter. You will most definitely want the race ecm because it will run way too lean. I was popping and cracking like a bowl of Rice Krispies,(I know, I know, rice is a bad word here) but like I wrote in a previous post I've had all three pieces for approximately six years with no problems. I think you will be happy with the new sound and power.

I added to my stock 2000 S3; a K&N air filter, a Supertrapp slip-on and a Race ECM. Even with the Race ECM (which raises redline to 6800) I thought it was too lean. So I installed a Dynojet II. It cured the detonation and dyno'd to 89 HP and 74 lb/ft of torque; pretty respectable! But the Dynojet II went south on a long trip to Deals Gap; don't buy one of these! So I'm back to the Buell race ECM and the bike is stone reliable.

I would be Suspect of 99s with fuel injection running lean. The out come can be rather costly.
