Finally got around to pulling that old V&H off my Cyclone to make the rusty inlet pipe black. For the first time in my brief life, I peered into a genuine V&H to see what I could see. All I saw was the other end. I assume I'll have to separate the outer from the inner to see if there's any packing(I've seen pictures of the repacking stuff). Is there supposed to be anything else in there except air and daylight? I don't know what it's supposed to sound like, sounds okay when I'm on it,just background music for the adventure, but hearing Beck take off down the road on it, it's maybe a little rough and gutteral sounding, not so bad a thing. Just a curiosity thing at the moment |

There is supposed to be a perforated tube that runs the length, it gets sandwiched between the ends, screws to the tailpipe cap, and the packing goes around that. You'll have to contact V&H or an authorized dealer for them to purchase a replacement baffle (which will come with packing already on it) all for around 30 bucks. Just make sure you get the right one .. its pretty much the same diameter as the inlet, maybe a touch smaller .. If I can round up the part number from when I bought one back when I ran a V&H I will forward it to you. |

Easy fix, but you didnt say how many miles? I got about 10 thou out of mine before a repack. This was on a very hard breathing GSXR1100. |

Ah Ha!! I thought it looked a little spacious in there. The bike has about 9700 mi on it, don't know about the V&H, but it looks rather experienced. I didn't think to look for any numbers or identification while I had it off, but it's got to come off anyhow, I hear a leak even over all that noise, hope it's where the inlet slides on the header, now I at least know what to look for, maybe I can mess with it tomorrow........if we ever find all those eggs, and warms up some and quits blowing this gale....where'd our springtime go? gotta build a garage thanks |

Finally got around to inspecting my V&H again, found a "SS2" on it, after looking at their site, I spos that funny thing at the end must be an "R"(SS2R?), they show a standard baffle and another, can't remember what they called it , but it sounded like it may be mo better? Any experience on that? If not, I'll just try one and see. Also, I'm proud to announce that after MC endorsement battles, mechanical issues (solved by extensive BadWeB assistance) ,and an epic adventure in motorcycle registration,I, just this evening, after almost four months of ownership, took my first perfectly legal ride on my M2. Less to worry about, relax, ride. After reading V&H's stuff about the proper baffle actually making the thing run BETTER, I'm not in a real rush to get that done, I may need to practice a bit more. If it ran much better, I'd have to just take second gear out. I'm hitting it better and better, I'm afraid it could become eventful. Scary. I love second. I talk to myself "I'm too old for this kind of stuff" WHOOOO!!!HOOOOO!!! "I'm going to hurt myself" WHOOOO!!!HOOOO!!! "I've got a license and tags, at least it won't be a multiple offense ticket" WHOOO!!!HOOO!!!! I had cramps in my grin muscles, and it was just a short ride. |
