Hey DD, I'm a flamenco player/student. I'm also learning to accompany the dancers here in San Diego (which is really cool!), but do a little classical for weddings and little gigs, too. Rock on! And I built my guitar! This is No.001

PS...Also why I don't 'race' around on my S1WL. My guitar is many times on my back, but a classical guy who's a friend of a friend went down on his bike.... Couldn't play for 2 years. THAT scares me.... |

That's so cool. What timbers? Have you inlaid around the edges? More closeups! There was an instrument maker with a shop in the markets at Salamanca Place in old Hobart Town in Tasmania when I lived down there. I used to stop in and just watch him work. Awesome skills. cheers. |

I used a Master Grade German spruce for the top, Spanish cypress on the back and side, Spanish cedar neck, with the pegs. The bridge, bindings, and headplate are macassar ebony. Very traditional in the construction woods. It's from the Manuel Reyes plans. It's very cool to build. I ride over to this luthier's house who 'walked me through it', on my bike, and just play and work. I'm being asked to build, so I'm going to get started again.... 50K Dave . . . nice guitar . . . I love seeing folks bit by the music bug. I was playing a Duke Ellington standard last night, couldn't get the song out of my head. . . got up this morning, picked up the J40 next to the bed and was at it again at 4:30AM . . . it's addictive as hell. I walked in a store the other day and could hear something calling out to me . . . My (very understanding) SCU asked . . . "how many guitars do you have to have?" Seemed like an honest question that warranted an honest answer. "3. . . then I'm done". for a while . . . . |

>>Why is is you posted HUGE shots and my small stuff won't get accepted?<< I'm linking them from my own site as embedded images - they aren't on badweb. They have to be somewhere else on the net - then you just point to them with [img] tags around that address. |

>>My (very understanding) SCU asked<< The problem there is that *we* have to be just as understanding when they want to buy themselves something:

Danger: I feel your pain . . . mine just opted for about the very same Mercedes but had to have a convertible. Hey . . . let me get this right . . . if they spend X on . . . . Nah . . .it'd never fly. Had an interesting dialogue with a friend the other day . . he suggested I use the line "but dear. . .you know I am a sucker for Italian beauty". It's a good line Dave, but falls short of explaining a $43,000 Italian guitar. Se la vie . . |

I'm a very lucky bunny, my darling wouldn't dream of spending that much money on a car, & I'm tone deaf & couldn't play a one string guitar to save my life. So she doesn't mind about; the '68 Dodge pickup, the M2, the FJ1200, or the Landrover Discovery, because they're none of them worth a huge amount, but they're all my babies. I have to say, though I appreciate the skill & passion that goes into making or playing a guitar, I'd still rather be hanking the S-class down a nice road (with some guitar music on the stereo of course) |

Don't know who R&G are, but here's an idea of what I do. I accompany the singers and dancers. When the girls are 'dressed' for rehearsal or performance, it's really elegant and sexy, and challenging to find a pattern to exactly match and accentuate their footwork, or to play off the singer. The order is singer, dancer, and I'm the least important... But if I screw up, EVERYBODY is looking at me! lol..No pressure! http://youtube.com/watch?v=0BCNOunTPH8 And I ordered more wood today for #2 :-) |

Girl has earned it - putting up with me for 26 years. Scrub nurse when we met. Cardio unit, put herself through university twice after the kids were self sufficient and now works 60 or more hours a week running a dozen private hospitals. All down to her own hard work and talent. I call her 'my wife whatshername' or 'caniborrowthecardear'. I'm gonna put her in a french maid's costume and sit in the back and play the guitar dd |

By the way . . . if you do not subscribe to GUITAR PLAYER magazine . . . do yourself a service and scadaddle out and buy the April 2007 (yes, yes. . I know they are not a sponsor) . . and check out the "Great Guitar Albums of 1967". It absolutely rocks. I you do not remember listening to Jimi Hendrix, it may be lost on you . . . if you do . . . the issue will amaze. |

Danger_dave - Thank you. It's a 350chevy v-8. We run small tracks so you need something that revs fast and high. And you need it cheap, enter the small block chevy! Most tracks we run you come off the turn at about 3000rpm and need to be turning 6800 to 7200rpm at the end of the straight. We figure this engine is putting out about 475 ponies. Got one going in this weekend that should push 500hp. My car is weak compared to my brothers. Check us out at Haywire-Racing. Now all I gotta do is get Brian to throw some advertising dollars my way! |

Oh, by the way, the guy I work with just picked up a new Godin midi guitar. Pretty cool axe, and real pretty in the natural wood finish. Me, I'll stick with my B.C.-Rich Warlock bass! When I need a change of pace, I have the Ibanez X-Series bass in the closet. Gotta' have a funky shape! Like Buells, gotta' be different! No Strats! |
