My darn carb bracket broke on the freeway today,tossing my one-of-a-kind carbon fiber aircleaner down the road along with my NRHS billet backing plate. A semi ran over the cover,shiiiitttt!!!!Both ears broke off,no warning whatsoever. Anyone know of a better carb bracket as the stocker appears to be just stamped steel with bends stressing it. | ||

FMJ, Take a gander at the Crossroads piece. Kinda to purdy to cover up and all. Bought one for the S1 with the intention of getting a forcewinder. Now it sits behind the ham-can.  | ||

What about the bolts that hold the backing plate to the carb? Were they installed? | ||

wow jim,, thats crazy.. i have never heard of that one.. what carb are you running.. was it a little longer than the stock cv?? did you do the manly thing and hold it on the bike with your knee,, "after picking up the pieces" and finish ridding home???he,he,he!!! the fuel line, choke cables, vacuum lines, didnt support it??? hmmm that must have been some cough back threw the carb to blow it clean off the bike.. | ||

Carb stayed on bike and after I zip tied it I rode home. I will take a pic today,but it broke right across both flats where it bolts to head. I am running a Mikuni.I am heart broken about my cover though ,as I bought it from Tat Marcy of American Sportbike many moons ago and doubt I will ever see another. | ||

I had the same thing happen to me, except I cought it before if fell to the ground. I bought a new stock bracket and then strengthened it by welding small tabs in the radius of the bends. If I remember correctly, I got one for an S2 which was did not have the cut-out in the holes as the later ones did. I was running an aftermarket A/C which was much more heavy than the stock unit. That cured it. Those Crossroads brackets sure are pretty. | ||

You may have to blame the billet backing plate. That's alot of extra weight. I was running a billet cover and went through those brackets regularly. That Crossroads piece is gorgeous, though. Come to think of it, I inherited the billet cover with some deep scratches in it from Funjimmy. It evacced on him at about the ton, just missed Deb, riding behind, and she actually found it again a hundred feet off the road in the field. Funjimmy was also running a Mikuni, so didn't have the cover screwed to the carb. Or the carb would have evacced too, I guess. | ||

hey fireman,, got an idea to run past you... im not sure what motor, head, breather set up you are running... but could you just eliminate the bracket and use you current nhrs backing plate to do the job..  if you replace your breather bolts with the correct length billet posts,, and then drill threw you current backing plate to bolt it to the taped hole in the ends of those posts.. now your nhrs backing plate is directly bolted to the heads.. no need for that steel plate.... if you are breathing threw banjo bolts it ok we can still do it.. and i happen to know a machinist whom owes you a favor.. | ||

101,600 + miles on stock bracket! Nice work Aaron + not bottoming any more with Wp shock (compression damping adj. did it,carving corners and pulling gs at speed and confidence!!!!) Butch   But will still notch ark both sides at tire change. (Message edited by ebutch on April 04, 2007) | ||

Aaomy-are you running XB covers w/PCV's on your S2? Any clearance issues between the rear CV and the bottom of the gas tank? I'ce got a thread going in the Old School Buell section about my current project... rt | ||

I did some one-stop shopping and called Uncle Al Lighton up. Got a Crossroads bracket,new filter,and new carbon fiber cover.Thanks,Al. | ||
