Just got this from Odie this weekend. Rode about 40 miles today and im getting alot of popping on decel and in between shifting. I rode for about 5 miles at 3500 rpm for the computer to "learn" the new pipe. I know some is to be expected and although the popping really dont bother me, i just dont want the motor to be running to lean! I have the header and can as close and tight as it will go! So im not sure how to fix it exept an AF adjustment! any ideas? |

Do you have the race ecm? If not, this is probably your solution. |

I rode my 9r all last summer with an Odie pipe and the stock ECM, got popping/crackling on decel too. Put the race ecm in over the winter, and have only been out a little bit so far this spring, but I think the popping is gone....(sniff sniff...used to love that sound!!) |

If you go to anything other than the stock pipe, you're pretty much going to need the race ecm. |

To really make that pipe sing you'll need a power commander or get your ecm remapped from Al at American Sport Bike. Yes, you can run it stock and it runs great, but the popping will be there. It doesn't hurt anything, but it is definitely going to stick around. |

You can run the pipe with the stock ecm but you have to deal with the popping. You want the pop to go away get a race ecm. Any pipe you put on will make it pop with the stock ecm, even my factory race pipe pops with the stock ecm. |

yeah thats kinda what i figured. I just hoped i would be the token Bueller with no problems!!! LOL!! i got a slightly bigger problem now!! since i was a and torque the front strap to lb. pounds instead of inch pounds.....i broke it while installing the can.... although it worked for about 100 miles, it broke today while running with another Bueller!! Leaned forword to look down at where the can meets the header and it looks like the can dropped about 1/8 inch.. SO, maybe it wasn't tight after al i dont know.. I haven't done the search yet....but about a month ago someone posted a site with the muffler clamps on a Marina website. Any body know where that might be?? |

From a previous post: You can find the straps here. The two rear straps are 7.5" and the smallest one for the header connection is 2". http://www.deepblueyachtsupply.com/series.aspx?id= 127 Anyone know the size of the smaller front strap? |

sweet thanks for the link... ok, so everyone says to now get a race ecm! I just got the Special ops pipe with the stock servo still there... if i go put a race ecm in, what will this pipe do then? it wont work.. i thought the whole purpose of this pipe was to run the stock filter and ecm? Was i wrong? pipe makes the bike run great in mid range...only problem is lots of popping on decel.... If i get a race ecm and filter it defeats my whole perpose getting this pipe. That's why I recommend either a power commander (I'll be selling mine shortly) or getting it remapped by Al. Both these options will let you keep the servo going. The power commander works best if you can get it dyno tuned, but the map on it now is pretty good. The software it comes with lets you tweak it. Al's remapping doesn't require any tuning, but it does get pricey. That being said you can run it with the stock ECM and it does great, just deal with the popping on decel. Who needs to slow down anyway??? |
