THE S1 LIVES! But the XB is still in peices. I haven't decided what I'm going to do with it yet. I can't find a place around here that can sleeve the spark plug hole and the kit costs $130 while a new head costs $230. I'd kind of rather get a new head, but I don't have the valve spring compression tool. Plus if I'm replacing the head, I may as well just rebuild the entire motor while I'm at it. But I don't have the room or tools to do any of this right now. Here is an pic of my work space:
That door is to a closet by the way, not outside. I had to put the couch up on its end and move the refrigerator to get it back there. |

Rob, Did you ever hear back from Buell on the Firebolt headlights? I need to do something about mine soon. I do a lot of night riding and the dimness just isn't cutting it. |

James....It's all in good fun. Gail's has always treated me very well, but I'm pretty easy going. Doesn't BMW stand for "Bring Money & Wait"?? Engles has to be one of my favorite shops, although they are a long way from home for me too. I have been into Riverfront a few times for parts and they have been nice to deal with too. |

Drake, have you pulled the lamps and inspected the reflectors? |

Loren, No...I haven't done that yet. But I am almost positive that there is some flaking of the reflective material. It just doesn't shine as well as it should. |

Did you not get one of the letters from Buell? If not, let me know and I'll forward it to you. I brought in the letter and both the low and high beam assemblies to the local HD/Buell dealership, and they handed me new ones. I couldn't believe how much of a difference it made. Unfortunately, that was the ride when the spark plug blew out. I did notice that the only difference between the high and low beam is a metal 'T' bolted under the lens. If you remove it, you will essentially have two high beams. While this won't fix the crappy reflector, it will allow more light out of the lens. Giving out new reflectors is just a stop-gap until they can redesign them and do a recall. |

Congrats Fester! Hey James, we didn't get the letter because we bought a Bolt. We got the letter because we posted our info to Court and he forwarded it to Buell. PM me and I'll forward it to you when I get home from work. Or use the search function. I think someone posted the text in the QuickBorad. |

Hi all...new poster here. I live in the Kansas City area. I currently own a 2005 Sportster 1200C. I am lusting after the new TT model of Buell. Does anyone here have one, and if so what do you think. I sat on a Uly yesterday and it was just too tall for my comfort. I sat on the TT and it was VERY comfy for me... |

When riding, the height of the Uly makes no difference except for the increased visibility in traffic (you can see over the cars). Of course, there is one side effect. That is my left butt cheek seems to have gotten larger and more defined as a result of the seated stance at idle. |

Thanks for the reply Low...I could put my foot down on the Uly, but wasn't sure how comfy I'd be like that at intersections, and how quickly I could get up and go if needed. Like I said I was comfy on the TT and liked it alot. I see your profile says you're from KCK...I'm a Dotte too!! Where are you at?? |

Profile is misleading. I am in Gardner. 8 miles SW of Olathe off I35. You won't be disappointed in any Buell IMO. The TT is basically a short Uly anyway. I am just over 5-10 with a 32" inseam. With the preload set soft and the damping increased, the Uly squats enough for me to firmly touch the balls of my feet at a stop. I usually one-cheek it though. It has never been a problem for me in 13k miles. The versatility of the bike and the comfort of the seat more than make up for the shortcomings of it being so tall, IMO. If I were to buy another Buell today, it would be another Uly. No shit. That said, I would not hesitate for an instant to buy the TT if it fits you better. These bikes are pretty much all the same. |

The TT looks like it is probably a fun bike. I don't think any of the guys here have one though. Most of us have Lightnings/Firebolts and a couple Ulys. They're fun bike, and the power compared to your sporty will be really fun for you. Find a stealership and go take one for a ride. I think the closest are Gail's and Lawrence, but I don't know if either has the TT in stock. What ever you do, don't buy the maintenance program because these bikes are really easy to work on yourself. Also, make sure you think you've got a good feel for the dealership. Go talk to the guys in the service area in case you need to drop your bike off for warranty work and stuff like that. I've had my bolt 12 since August of 2004, and I'm still loving it. It doesn't look anything like it did when I bought it, and it still isn't ready for the season but I'm hoping to remedy that this weekend.

Thanks Fester! The coating guy just called to say Larry's header is done, so now I can go pick up my header, mid-pipe and Jardine. I got all that done in semi-gloss black to match everything else, and I'm going to paint my case covers and pulley tonight. I'll probably give the paint a night to cure up and put it all back together tomorrow after work. I'll post some new pics once it is completely back together. |

Fester, I don't know, but your being a Marine leads me to believe your butt-cheek problem might be related to time spent at sea. We do need to put a ride together somewhere. I know. Let's wait till it gets unbearably hot and ride down to Drake's place again. http://picasaweb.google.com/lowflyer00/KCLWDoesTul sa I want to have my pic taken with a strange old guy sleeping in a chair at a large retail outlet. Nah, I remember that day. It was, I think, the first weekend of April last year. The weather was sort of crappy, but there was a good turn out. I was with some work buddies and you blasted past us on I35 somewhere before Beto Junction. Your bike was popping and backfiring like crazy. You and I exchanged a wave and I then had to explain to those Beemer riders at breakfast that morning that it was "normal" for some Buells to spit and pop like that. You and I spoke briefly that morning in Cassoday, but not long enough for you to tell me that you were stranded. I found out at some point later that you had to be towed home. Otherwise, I would have stuck around to get some decent pictures. |

if anyone here were step onto toilet paper in a bathroom, Lee would have a picture of it, and a delightful caption, before it was stuck to your shoe..... believe me. the price of pride is eternal vigilance. there's your warning. |

There is always a measure of fairness to offset my cruelty. Remember this one?
That was a lesson in the advantages of being stranded next to a barbed-wire fence with a guy who happens to carry fence cutters on his Uly. (Message edited by lowflyer on March 29, 2007) |
