Can anyone tell me the best/preferred plugs (I'm in So Cal. 60's and 70's,mostly) for this year bike?

Also, oil filters, oil, lubes, etc.?

Everything says 'Harley' - of course, in the manual, but that rarely means the best - or even very good, for that matter!

Thank you all

Use 10R12 H-D plugs. A lot of people use NGK but they tend to foul easily for some reason. Filters...that's a big debate, too. Most people use H-D everything unless they're trying to save a few bucks. You can use a long filter to increase the oil capacity a bit. Most any full synthetic in 20W-50 to 15W-50 range works well, in the transmission H-D Formula+ is really the best stuff I've ever used. Some use gear oil or other brands. Opinions vary.

I've never experienced problems with plug fouling using NGK's. That is not to say that NGK's won't foul. They just won't have as much of a problem with it as most other brands.

My experience tells me, and I've tried Bosch, Champion, Splitfire, Buell / HD, and lord knows how many other plug brands, that NGK's work best.

I'd wager that many who try different brands of plug and end up sticking with one brand often do so after using a particular brand only once and not having such a good result.

I've tried brand after brand, each several times, and whilst I have not had entirely perfect reliability using NGK plugs, they are for me way better than other brands I've tried. For me NGK DPR9EA9 is the plug.

Plug reliability is affected by other parameters within the ignition system. Good quality wiring on the HT side, and good weather sealing is essential for plugs in tube Buell applications. Any hint of misfire caused by damp, or worse, wet weather conditions, can and will diminish the performance of the energy delivered to the spark plug. 5000 deliveries a minute can quickly see ANY spark plug under performing. In a Buell engine that can perhaps be more telling to plug fouling than it would be in say a multi cylinder high revving IL engine.

Many moons ago NGK use to claim their plugs were exceptionally good in engines that 'burnt' oil, as NGK plugs were developed to also work well in two stroke engines, which the Japanese manufactured a great deal of.

Were you at Newcomb's today? There was a 98 White Lightening there. I was on a blue XB9R.

Newcomb's??? San Diego, CA? Don't know that? But no, no riding Sat. Had to go to LA and spent 6.5 B R U T A L hours on the freeway in a car.

Today, almost took the bike, but had a guitar and my mom's new laptop that I had to go set up for her... Thinking about taking a spin right now.

This thing just arrived Thursday night, so I'm fired up to ride a bit, as all I did the other day was go get gas. woo hoo!lol

(and thanks, too, Rocketman)

No worries.

One tip I might offer.

I have filled abundantly the rubber socks between coil and HT wire with Vaseline. Vaseline offers great protection from water whilst not affecting conductivity.

Newcomb's Ranch is on CA 2 (Angeles Crest Hwy) just up from Pasadena. Not so far from you.
