Has anyone actually installed one of these on a Firebolt? Problem is I ordered one and have it in the garage but don't think that I can get it to work with the setup that I received. The wiring harness gets in the way of having the dampener move freely. Am I the first one to attempt this? I'll post some pictures of what I'm talking about in a little bit. Please help.............. |

You aren't the first to attempt this. I've done it several times now. It is a royal PITA. The wire harness on a stock XB is about twice the thickness of an XBRR. That is why it seems like is gets in the way. Just take your time, get as much stuff out of your way as possible and prepare for extensive cursing! Pete |

Do you put the wiring harness on top or below the dampener? Here's the start of it.
Oh and Eric...... Here's your old belt tensioner........ redone the Damnut way!!!

WTF? Looks like you will need to rewire the entire thing. That looks like a PITA for sure! One word bro..... LSL....Simple install. Looks like you just need to unhook it all and re route alot of the stuff. Not much room in there either. Let us know if ya need a hand! |

Damnut - You're a brave man! That looks like a mess! Try wrapping the harness around the dampener! |

One word bro..... LSL....Simple install. Yea that's what I want to do........ spend ANOTHER 400 BUCKS yea right I think I'll just make this one work. What I came up with is to make the spacer a little bit longer so the dampener is just below the wiring harness. I have a piece of aluminum tubing that I am going to cut to size for a mock up to see if that is going to work. Then I am going to bring it to my company's machine shop for the guy to make me a spacer to my exact measurements. Hopefully it will be short enough that it isn't flimsy. I think it will work. I'll post pictures later. But in the meantime....... if anyone has any ideas, please chime in. |

I am facing the same thing - I have the Storz which will be going on the XBlast and I have the new forks and RR damper which will go on the big twin racebike. I know I'd have to re-do the wiring. Even bought a new harness assembly on ebay. |

"What I came up with is to make the spacer a little bit longer so the dampener is just below the wiring harness." That is just what I was about to suggest. Maybe if you make the outer diameter of the spacer large enough, that will eliminate any flimsiness. |

Dang For Just under 400 beans I would think that buell would have made it so that it would be a "FAIRLY" simple install. Maybe supply a couple extra spacers AND THE CORRECT BOLTS would be nice!!!! (I am baffled at that one..that's all i gots to say) I mean not everyone has a XBRR kicking around they are attaching this thing to. should be made to work with all xb's. supply a little extra hardware for those doing it on a XBR/XBS/XBRR... No reason to be "RE DESIGNING" this thing to work on a Buell in my opinion. should have been thought out a little better, thats all i am saying...AND supply the CORRECT hardware too! |

I bought an LSL damper on eBay with no hardware, then purchased the XBRR mount & used half of it to do the install on my XBS. I had to Fab a bracket to attach to the engine mount, but it worked out great. You might be able to do something similar? Here's some photos, since a picture's worth a thousand words. The gummy discoloration on the damper is Elmer's Wood Glue, which I use instead of blue Locktite. It works every bit as well & is one tenth the price. Well here's the drawing that I came up with for my spacer. It should work out great.
Here's what it actually looks like.
I'll post pictures of the spacer mounted on the bike. I think that it will work out great!! |
