Jeffnights, FACT: The XB CANNOT be compared to ANYTHING fairly, simply because nothing else out there is LIKE an XB, kinda the whole point. |

I'd rather compare an XB to going scuba diving with Sunny. Both are good in different ways. NOT the same thing. |

I came from CBRs and an R6. Attached is my previous R6. The Japanese bikes are really fun and very nice, but I'm 31 and wanted a more grown-up bike. I am a gear head and love the mechanical look and bare-bones style of the Buell. It's nice to go against the norm and pull into a meet with something different than everyone else too. The XB is a mean bike and exudes toughness and mechanical rawness. Last season, I went on a ride with a Gixer 750 rider to meet his friends and show off his fully customized Suzuki. He thought they would totally ignore my Buell. When we got there, all they could do was stare at my bike and ask what the heck it was. They weren't exactly bike enthusiasts, but they were completely jaw-dropped about my bike. They said it was "crazy" and bada$$. I was definitely smirking inside since my riding buddy had just finished spending nearly 4000 dollars in mods to his Gixer.

I wanted an American bike, but I was really sold after watching the "Buell on Buell" videos on the web site. I just had to do business with a guy that enthusiastic about his bikes. |

if its short, tight and twisty, i used to whip sport bike guys a$$ all the time. The sportster did make me a better rider, Torque is most important on the street, I have spent most of my life in 3 gear rolling the throttle on, sportbike? How often you use that 150 horses. |

155 horses, 98lbft. I use it every time I ride it. I wind up all of my bikes, every time I ride one of them. There should be a law. |

Hell... ya might as well sign it no matter what you ride. The risk is still there. |

I think Ridrx was just making a joke (ie the smiley face) in reference to Rich's comment about using all of his 155 hp and 98ftlbs of torque every time he rides. If that is true, then I can see why Ridrx's comment was applicable. Using that much power on the street would mean that he is riding around near the 180mph mark. That type of riding should be saved for the track. I've lost too many buddies due to their choice of using all of their bike's potential on the street. Yes, we all assume a risk by riding motorcycles, but your risks can increase dramatically by the choices you make. Ciao |

Cgocifer, I think you can use ALL 155 HP and 98ftlbs on the street safely. You just don't get to see more than first or second gear. |

Correct, I didn't say top speed. If I want to dog it around, I take my truck. |

In first, holding it WFO, the front end started rising at 55mph and gave a killer power wheelie. 3rd gear on windy roads was not unlike the Buell. Low RPM grunt and not much shifting. Not maximum power, but plenty. |

As far as GSXR's are concerned. I wish I could pull the trigger now and get one but I'll have to wait till next year. If I did it now I'd have to sell the XB and I don't want to do that although I have thought about it for couple seconds. |

Bads1, The Zukies are nice bikes for what they are, but I wouldn't ride one. I think they are the ugliest of the metric sport bikes for one. For another, they are the most common of the "me too" bikes on the road because many people who buy them do so because of their reputation for being the supposed best. I'll admit, they do win the races. Win on Sunday, sell on Monday. For me, I'm done with the Japanese bikes. If I were to go for a new bike, I'd go for a Triumph 675. |

you all need to get over the "looks" and "Nationality" of the bikes in question and look at the bikes for that they are... BIKES. btw: that ZX14 is a WICKED MACHINE. [dont hate it because you couldnt handle it.] |

I'm not interested in just the looks. I've sat on all of them and GIXXER feels the best to me. Suck's that the dealers won't let ya test them but you really kinda know what your getting anyhow. And Dan don't think the Gixxer is the most popular. All the Jap liter bikes are everywhere. |

For the type of riding I do most (mean streets of L.A.), the 12S is well-suited. Its like a quarter horse, y'know? (As opposed to a GSXR, which is more like a race horse.) From Wikipedia: It is commonly believed to be the world's fastest horse over short distances, and has been clocked at 63 mph. The Quarter Horse is well known both as a race horse and for its performance in rodeos, horse shows and as a working ranch horse. The compact body of the Quarter Horse is well-suited to the intricate and speedy maneuvers required in calf roping, reining, cutting, working cow horse, barrel racing and other western riding events, especially those involving live cattle. I use my Buell for herding big dumb lumbering beasts---cars! Ha! (Message edited by tommy_2stroke on March 22, 2007) |

btw: that ZX14 is a WICKED MACHINE. [dont hate it because you couldnt handle it.] I've been on bikes since I was 5 years old and have had my share of sport bikes including a GSXR 750. I still wouldn't ride that tank. Fast in a straight line, but try wielding that thing around some short, fast curves. No thanks. But, to each his own. We're starting to sound like HD dudes. It really doesn't matter what type of bike you ride, it's just the fact that you ride one. Dana, I know the GSXR may not be THE most popular, but in general, that is the one I see most. Those bikes are all cookie cutter to me. } |

The ZX14 is one impressive hunk of machinery, but pretty it ain't. Long, lumpy, and bug eyed. I'm a fan of Kawa bikes, but I'd never shell out for that one. Maybe its next incarnation will be nicer. They had a cutaway model at the Atlanta Int. bike show last year that was neat. I took a nice long look at it, and the only thing I could think of was,"Holy cow that looks complicated!". Glad I don't have to do maintenance on THAT! ~SM |

you all need to get over the "looks" and "Nationality" of the bikes in question and look at the bikes for that they are... BIKES Yeah, from now on, only look at the spec sheet! What's wrong with you people? We'll never fit in with the poser crowd if we continue to actually consider style or ergos. We should all want the fastest production bike, even if we are happy with the size of our manhoods and don't need to compensate. btw: that ZX14 is WICKED FUGLY [don't love it just because you like to imagine you could actually handle it] -------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------- I wouldn't mind having a gixxer as a second bike, a bike to beat up and abuse. Maybe an R6. Make it into a ratbike kinda thing. Parts are plentiful and cheap on ebay from all the thrashed ones out there. It'd be a different kind of ride. I've ridden them before, they're fun to just zip around on occasionally. Not as fun as my XB though and I would never have one as my only bike. Busa's and 14's represent the segment of motorcycle production that is stricly purpose driven. Niche bikes. They excel within the very narrow band of their designed purpose but don't do much beyond that. Hayabusa - go fast in a straight line. Goldwing - go comfortably in a straight line. Each appeals to a certain crowd and neither appeals to me. |

I used to have an old Kawasaki ZX9. I think it was an 87, not sure. Looked like something off of Mad Max. For being an old beater it was fast and too fast for me. Those quad carbs fitted with K&N Filters sounded pretty mean but after the gas tank rust started getting to the fuel system I had to put her down. Then I went to the Buell - more my type of riding. I'm with Fat bastard on that ZX14. It's fugly but I'd still "try" and ride it! |
