The first race of the season is rarely a foreshadowing of what is to come. A lot can change between races. |

Good article at "Speed" regarding the horsepower differential between Rossi's M1 and Stoner's GP7 http://www.speedtv.com/commentary/36068/ |

Hey Rocket im glad aussies have won the last two GP My predictions like most others will probably be wrong ... but im not hating on any brit riders here so whats your prob with me celebrating and gloating on two good aussie race wins... no one said anything about Vermulen so u have just thought to bag him because the fact i am praising aussie's, Barry Sheen picked Vermulen as a future champ so i spose he was talking out his ass.. |

Well Heads, it was you that raised the topic and the flag of the Aussies, so I thought you were talking specifically about Aussies in Moto GP. I'm not a fan of Stoner or Vermulen, and yes they are both superb talents and both probably more than capable of winning a Moto GP title given the right teams, but my own feelings would have me believe that even with the right teams I think there are others that would still beat them. Vermulen was not as consistent on the Moto GP 990's as he was in WSB, so it will be interesting to see how he goes on the 800's, but I believe I'm right in saying he is statistically beaten by his team mates thus far in Moto GP. What's holding him back? Stoner I believe is a raw talent and is perhaps the coming man, but there are others of similar age who I see as seasoned and consistently faster and established winners. They would be Melandri and Pedrosa closely followed by Elias. If Stoner is as good as he looked winning last weekend, and he keeps it up at the sharp end, then he is in that Mel, Ped, Ela club for sure, but I suspect he has a small mountain to climb first. Now whilst we are Aussie bashing, well it wouldn't be fair to leave Doohan out. I always saw Doohan's meteoric rise to glory as similar to Schumacher's in F1. Doohan spent many seasons without the true greats racing against him every weekend. But hey what do I know. Oh yeah, me and Barry go back a long way Rocket |

There are those who would point out that it's a certain Aussie who makes Rossi great (Hey! That rhymes!). |

I think Burgess would tell you it's the other way around. What! A modest Aussie Rocket |

True Rocket i did bring up the topic about Aussies in Moto GP and the flag. but only after your assesment of lack of talent that Stoner has, but hey im just an aussie watching another aussie win, so its all good. And while we are on the topic of Aussie bashing ,Tell me you'r thought's on the latest ASHES...WHITWASH ASSWHOOPING the poms got from the aussies... ohh we do have something in common me and BAZ go back a ways two cheers Heads |

but only after your assesment of lack of talent that Stoner has Recent times have seen Rocket in the sin bin with many BadWeBers, THROUGH THEIR LACK OF READING COMPREHENSION. Where exactly did I say Stoner lacked talent? Here are the comments I made about Stoner that you are at odds with. I wouldn't have had him on the podium. He was passed more than once after all. Like Vermulen, Stoner will disappoint just as much. Without that Italian bike beneath him, Stoner would have been blitzed by several others. Do I see Stoner beating Capirossi throughout the season? No has to be the answer. Stoner I believe is a raw talent and is perhaps the coming man, but there are others of similar age who I see as seasoned and consistently faster and established winners. So please quote me word for word if you're going to quote me at all, rather than put words into my mouth. Thanks. Now about Schumacher. Winning six world titles when Senna, Prost, Mansell and Piquet were no longer racing, well...............sounds a little like Doohan's reign to me Rocket (Message edited by rocketman on March 19, 2007) |

Well rocket i was not quoteing you as you say i was just my take on our conversations..so im sorry for you if you thought that... Will have to restate your lack of belive in his ability. anyway schu and doohan could only race who lined up against them maybe they may have only won races by meters instead of straight's if they had better competetive racers lined up...you could probably put Foggy in their missfortune also... i quiet like reading your rant's Rocket your one of my fav's here cheers heads |

i quiet like reading your rant's Rocket your one of my fav's here Quite? What do you mean quite? That's simply not good enough Heads, I love to debate / argue the toss about many things. Usually only when I believe I'm right of course, and my above words are full of provocation for just this reason. But, only if we can argue / debate / squabble without falling out. So yes, I have recognised in your posts that you are mindful of similar thoughts, which is all good too, so please accept my apologies if I appear to have offended your Aussie sensibilities Now about the cricket thing............... I'm happy for your fellow countrymen to have kicked our arse. It's a wussies game anyway! But at least us Brit's understand you don't pick up the ball in a game of footie!!!!!!!! All fun indeed Rocket |

It was an interesting start to the season and a bit of a surprise to see the differing speeds of the manufacturers. One thing that has always intrigued me is the opportunities that seem to come to Casey Stoner. The victory was his though as Rossi had no chace of getting in front of him in the final laps a s he was just too fast. IMO there are other great Aussies riders in both the MotoGP circus and other international classes that have been overlooked and disregarded. Anthony West is one guy in the 250cc field that has been battling for a decent bike in both 500cc and 250cc but has never had the tools to perform how he should. He has proven himself time and time again in wet races where riding actually counts but still no one gives him a bike. This year maybe different but I think his time has gone unfortunately. Another aspect of the MotoGP bikes I would like to see more talk about is the absence of high sides over the past 18months and the affects the traction control systems are really having on the championship. I wonder how fast a 500cc could have been if the technology available today was fitted. Overall HP (& rider weight) is going to be a big player in the this years MotoGP paddock as the risk of opening the throttle on the straights is a little less than out riding the best aat the limits of the tyres. |

"Absence of high sides??" I think Hopkins would disagree... |

Well traction control is definitely playing a part in MotoGP as well as the AMA...personally I don't like it, I would never have a bike with it, to me throttle control and corner speed is what separates the tremendous talent from each other..that fraction of an inch of ability that makes one Rossi and a champion and one Hopkins and not a champion..I have no agenda with the picking of those names either..just one is and one isn't. I like idea that the bike can bite back..that was the point of racing to me...I think traction control is for F1 and other car racing and not for the bikes....also I have watched the last GP again and I think that the lean angle of Hopkins bike when he was at 63 degrees is aided by the banking in the track..I would think that the sensor knows level and that is why the bike is shown at 5, 6, 8, and later 2 degrees going down the straight..that would lead me to believe that to really figure how much he leaned the beast would be to know the bank grade and subtract that from the equation...I am also wondering if that effects the math we have already seen here to determine the G forces....ok done. How's it going Rocket? Hit the B1257 lately? |

Going great, but the B1257 is snowed in! Done a little work on the Buell recently though. In time ready for spring. Riding season starts anytime soon, after this cold snap. Be well. Rocket |

Well that Ducati didn't come through totally this weekend, but Stoner looked fairly consistent moving up through the field. Too bad for John Hopkins...Rossi looks unbeatable again really. That sucks about the snow for you Rocket, but spring is coming.. |

The snow was a slight exaggeration, lol. We had a cold snap a couple of weeks ago, but hey, BST is here, and that means lighter nights! The weather has been glorious this past two days too. Yeah it's still a little chilly, but I'll be out riding very soon. Battery is fully charged. Just need to get the MOT test and Road Tax, and we're fully legally. That said, the B1275 isn't high on my priority this year. I'm getting too old for that shit, lol. Rocket |
