Ok, here's the deal. I have a '99 X1, I took the H.I.D. projector and ballast out of a cadillac xlr and modified it and my bucket to fit together. I tested it last night and it works awesome. There is one problem however. I have the ballast power hooked up to the low beam wire and the high beam solenoid hooked up to the high beam wire. Well the problem comes when I switch it to high beam, the solenoid kicks on and the light turns off. How do I make it so the light stays on and the solenoid still engages? Some might be wondering what I mean by "turns off", I'll explain the best I can. On the XLR it only has one headlight per side and it is H.I.D. Inside the projector assembly is a door, or flap, that blocks half of the light. Attached to the door is a solenoid that is energized when the high beams are selected and moves that door out of the way making the whole world light up. I was at the dealer looking at the firebolts and was wondering how Buell did it on those bikes. Did they install a different high beam switch in the left switch cluster, or install a diode in line with the headlamp wiring, or something else completely? Any help would be greatly appreciated, like I said before, I modified my headlamp bucket and don't have a spare, so it's this or no riding yet. Thanks everyone. | ||

I didn't follow all that but it may be a good idea to put a relay in the power supply going to the HID. Is there still power going to the HID when the high beam is on? If not, you may have to find another source of switched power and use that to pull in the relay. | ||

Run a power wire from the battery through a relay to the headlight, and use any convenient ignition source (I.E. taillight) as the switch power to the relay. | ||

Look around, there is a simple jumper wire you can put in the left side handgrip to make them both stay on when you select high beam. | ||
