This week I renewed my annual insurance policy on my '06 XB12Ss through Harley Davidson Insurance (Dairyland) and I was shocked at the cost for a year policy. $722 to be exact. I'm in Washington State, 33 years old, and have a spotless driving record (both vehicle and motorcycle). When I bought the bike one year ago I rolled the insurance policy into the loan, and with all the excitement of a new bike I forgot how much the policy cost. I went back and looked it up on my paperwork and it's roughly the same amount. Within the first three months I had the bike paid off, so now I own it outright. In WA State motorcycle insurance isn't mandatory if you own the bike, but I feel it would be foolish not to carry it. For sh*ts and grins I called Progressive (who I had before on my KTM Supermoto) for a price and they quoted me over $2000! I had to say what the f*ck? They said because the motor is 1203cc they consider it high performance which means high $. To make a long story short, does $722 seam high for a XB12Ss? After calling for other quotes I'm now thinking that it might not be. What prices are you guys paying for full coverage and am I missing any hidden secrets when it comes to motorcycle insurance? Thanks, Scott |

Bo_sox are you single? or married that will make a difference. What type of deductible and the amount of coverage you are getting can be big factors also and since your bike is new it cost more to replace. There are several factors to think about. I pay $450 a year for full coverage with a $250 deductible on my X1 with minimal coverage amounts. I live in NY, 36 and married. Each state has different laws on insurance. |

i'm paying around 1200 a year through dairyland on three bikes with the 07 scg as the newest, not to mention the 04 ultra and the 02 cyclone. i'm only paying 10 dollars more than i was with statefarm with the two older bikes.i'll be turning 50 in august, am married, living outside of tampa and got a speeding ticket back in september for doing 101 on the interstate of which i paid the fine and took the school. also have a 100 deductable. i've checked with some of the other people also and i havn't found anything better yet. |

I have Dairyland through Fernet brokerage in FL, bike's paid for but I carry full coverage $250 deductible with (up to) $2000 in aftermarket add-ons covered for $325ish. Check out fernet dot com for info, they've always given great customer service and give discounts for years riding and rider safety classes. Also, most auto ins. providers will not give any kind of a discount on your bike since they consider it a recreational vehicle. I was frustrated with State Farm when they told me no discounts, even though my condo and auto ins. is through them. They also didn't offer ANY discount for rider safety classes. So don't waste too much time fretting about loyalty to them (your other ins. provider), they'll show their loyalties in the prices and considerations they offer. -Mike |

Apples to oranges. Where you live counts almost as much as your age, sex, marital status, driving record, and model of motorcycle. Too damned many variables if you ask me. Can you name me ANY other industry where setting rates based on age or sex wouldn't result in a lawsuit?? |

Bo Sox, I also have an Xb12Ss in Washington. I pay about the same amount but I am 25, and single, with a good driving record. You should check out State Farm, they have always treated me right. |

Buell has a new policy line with Sentry. It is lower cost than a "crotch rocket" Give them a call 1-800-3sentry, it was in FUELL a couple of months ago. |

Well Bo Sox I also have a 06 Lighting long and live in Everett I am 54 years old ridding bikes for 45 years my last citation was in 1983 Farmers quoted me $1500.per year When I asked why they said high performance motor and get this due to my age group I am HIGH RISK seems all the yuppy Harley first time bikers are all getting killed. So $722 is half what I had to pay.WTF over. |

Dairyland was the cheapest for me too, and I pay around $750 on an 05 XB12Scg that I hold the title to. I'm 34 and single, and have a $500 deductible on a 20/40/15 policy and $5,000 in additional equipment coverage. Seems a little high to me too, and I got the same song and dance about the engine size. It's a shame I've got full coverage on my Tahoe with no deductible for less than $500 a year. I take much better care of and ride more defensively with the bike than I do the truck. Figures. |

Too many claims can bring up the cost.. I have a feeling the frame issue is putting a bite on insurance companys.. They bite back harder.. |
