Notice none of the bikes were Buells.
I HAVE seen Buells stunting, but they are not the preferred machine, as they are heavy, top heavy and not great handlers, relative to the other stuff out there.

Look up Todd Colbert and TeamX-treem

They are a Buell sponsored team and pretty impressive. I believe Todd was the driving force behind Stunt Wars.

I saw his show in Daytona at bike week and one of the guys Adam Chumita is pretty amazing what he can do on his Buell.

Let's see.. LBox's argument is based on a video of a group of professional stunters working out some of the kinks. (If I could remember their website, I'd link too it)..

As for stunting being a proof of handling.. and someone's claim that no one uses them because they can't be used.. uh.. two names...

Not trying to "Irritate" anyone! Just stating facts!
If no "F4i ratbike holds a candle to a Buell", can you please explain to me why 1200 & 1400 Buells are routinely beaten by 600's on every track in the world?
Now imagine a liter bike Vs a Buell!
Most tracks don't even like allowing Buells on, because they are constantly blowing up & ruining the track surface.
Don't take it from me, or get all upset, thinking I'm defaming your Saint Erik, Go to a REAL track where they really race, and not Buell sponsored club races, if you really want the truth!
"No F4i ratbike holds a candle to a Buell", is really laughable if you know anything at all about motorcycles and racing!

I usually tech inspect my Buell and my CBR600 when I do track days. I ride both, one after the other during the sessions. My CBR seems to be better on the more open tracks with sweepers and the Buell is more at home on the tighter, more technical tracks. I can honestly attest that I have lit up many 600's and literbikes while on my Buell at the track. What some folks are forgetting is that a good rider on any trackable bike will have faster lap times than an average rider on the latest and greatest machine. It's all about keeping good lines and maintaining good corner exit speed.

Any idiot can ride fast in a straight line... just my humble, educated opinion.

The engine sets pretty high up in the frame and the 45 degree V-Twin has 2 tall cylinders and some heavy pistons.i believe Jeremy McWilliams made a comment about the XBRR being top heavy.

I think you've lost sight of the original discussion. Weren't we talking about handling on the road.

I think we already covered that Buells are beaten by 600s and 1000s when those bikes have the ability to fully use the RPM band and Horsepower curve.

I think we already established that race bikes are better on the track, but Buells are better where horsepower is not a factor. Why would this be?

DAMN! I'm sure all those Thunder Bike Racers are seriously bummed by this.. as a matter of fact.. does that mean that all the pictures I've taken of Buells on tracks are all just a demonstration of my skill with Photoshop?

Ok, in all fairness.. Every time I've ridden on the track, I'm not setting any lap records.. but then I really don't expect too.. Now then, when it comes to street handling, and street riding, there is nothing more fun for me then to be out and about 'carving corners' on my Buell... I've had pretty fast riders on much faster bikes then mine both fall off on some roads where I can hold a steady speed. So, this means to me, that I've got a bike that really handles well.

Can I beat a 600cc I4 on the track?

Well.. let's see.. I've seen many Buell racers beat riders on 600's .. It's usually done when a racer relies on HP to try and win on a technical track. At Summit Point, Shenandoah (a serious technical track) Brian Bemisderfer - Riding a race prepped Buell XB12R set two track records in the same day. (the other record was set by Nate Kern on a BMW - it went, Brian, Nate, Brian). .. So.. does this Buell hold the lap record at .. say.. VIR? Nope, too long, suited more to the HP monsters.. Do they race there and win? Yes, they do. I'm not even sure what my point is anymore.. But I'm sure some of the others here.. that have already made several points regarding the XB's suitability to the street can chime in.

I will however concede a few more points. Buells do not make really good Tour Boats (Gold Wings are better for sure.. Sorry EB) .. Yet.

in all fairness to the stunting, the buell's balance point is not as wide as the inline 4's in general. it is, however, easier to find. it's just kinda tough to keep it there. once that motor gets forward, the front end does this....


anybody got a deal on fork seals? i think i need a whole box....

I've got four or so days in at Pocono, on a couple different tracks.

The only way I've been successful passing good riders on Japanese or Italian bikes with a Buell is to brake very late and essentially stuff guys. If you carry more speed through the corner you can occasoinally overtake them. However, usually about when you get about even or show them a wheel, they just twist the throttle and squirt away. Unless they are mature, then they recognize that they are holding you up by accelerating in straights, and let you go as a gentleman should. Not always the case....

The Buells do handle well, and you can do fine on a Buell and beat faster bikes. However, to overtake them you will have to ride very aggressively and take a lot of chances that you would not need to take with equal horsepower.

Has anyone here had a different experience at Pocono East or FUSA?
