So when is somebody going to post some Buell 200 links to youtube already? Excellent job Walt! Finishing in the top 20 would have rocked, but bringing a Buell across the finish line was a huge solid step, and I was thrilled to hear it. What an adventure to have run the Daytona 200. Too cool! |

46th place? Told you I should have ridden it for ya. Still, I suppose it's better than last year. Rocket just a little shit stirring for the fun of it |

Sent a note to Lockhart, EBC, and Vortex from the link provided by Blublak. Got the envelopes ready for the mail for the others. Snail mail for the out going. Good idea. |

I just got back from Daytona today (I figured, what's the hurry) and after a few days to reflect on the race, I can say unequivocally that: - Walt Sipp is the MAN! A group of us watched intently as on some early lap (10 or so) Walt was caught by Darren James on the Deeley Buell in turn one and then bumped...a collective gasp "They touched!". Then James over aggressively (totally uncalled-for) cut across Walt's line at the apex taking out his front wheel and knocking him to the ground...hard! Most any of the rest of us would have waited for the ambulance after such a violent wreck, but not Walt Sipp! He shook it off and climbed back on his ship. Once repairs were made, he understandably went into what appeared to be "Finish the Race" mode, but with about 10-12 laps left, he started riding aggressively. One one of the last laps, he was riding wheel to wheel around the track and down the straight aways with one of the winning Attack Kawasakis, although he was down several laps. When he came into the pits after the race, his crew was giving him a well deserved standing ovation. After all, he had made history! Thanks Walt, you have done something that no one else has been able to do to date. jimidan |

Buellmech sez: good ride Walt ,but if you check out the pix on AMA superbike looks like the other Buell is past you in the corner? I was watching from their back side as they were going into turn one, where the riders looked a lot closer than this, but really, they were not to the apex at the time the photo was shot. There were other bikes around them to, that Darren was passing. When the photo was shot, Darren had already bumped Walt though, but they arrived two wide at the apex when Darren crossed-up Walt by diving inside in what appeared to be an unnecessary move. I have not watched the race on SPEED though...maybe that will be more revealing. }jimidan |

having seen Darren race before I am sure it was not intentional if he took Walt out hopefully speed will show the race again |

Walt, job well done. I kept my word and stayed another day just so i could see the buells race. It was nice to see you finish. I figured i would leave as soon there where no more buells racing but you kept me until the end. keep up the good work |

After watching the race again on SPEED (I have it on DVR and watched it over and over again), it looked like Darren may have thought that he was by Walt when he cut across him. Freddie Spencer openly said that Walt was not at fault, however, he hedged a little bit when he added that maybe Walt could have prevented being cut off by backing off a little. Hindsight...it is what it is. I never thought that it was intentional either, and the replay seems to confirm that too. Unfortunate...yes. Boneheaded...maybe. Intentional...NOT. Hey, we all have brain farts. Watching it happen live was almost too much for this old guy though. The irony of it all was deafening. jimidan |

I've got the race on TiVo and have been watching it while working out...30 minutes at a time. I haven't seen the end yet, but it's good to know Walt finished. I keep looking for his name to move up in the standings. I've been praying for a big Buell comeback. Now to figure out how those dern Hondakawasukis are so damn fast. Would love to see a Buell on the podium next year. Wouldn't that be something?? |
