I did the 10,000 mile service on my Lightning this winter. On my first ride out at about 110mph. the front end felt real light as if skipping across the pavement. The only change was new fork oil. I have the Bel Ray Racing 10w in there now. Any suggested starting settings? I weigh about 200-210lbs. I hear it is real easy to get lost with this stuff. Thanks Ray |

I'd put the original fork oil weight back in it (only because I use it and weigh about the same as you and it seems to work well...). I've had a 12SL to 135 and never felt that at all. I had just dialed it into the stock setup for someone ~180-200. |

Try decreasing the compression damping until the front forks start to react to the road as they should. Then decrease the rebound damping a commensurate amount. (Message edited by old_man on March 14, 2007) |

Thanks Guys I will give it a try. I am going to start at 1.5 turns out on the compression and rebound and go from there. If I can not make it work I will change the fluid again, and need to go to a lighter viscosity fork oil, does anyone know for sure what the HD part number stuff is for sure? The service and owners manual do not call out a specific viscosity. Thanks Again! |

IIRC I used 7w at 10k. I don't know whether it was because it was a different viscosity or simply fresher than the oil that was in there, but the front end felt much better afterwards, more controlled during braking and more compliant while cornering. |
