I am in the process of putting new tires on the bike and I noticed that the front brake line is too short to allow the caliper to come off the brake rotor. I checked the FSM and the Factory way is to drain the brake fluid and remove the brake line from the caliper.
I did get the wheel off by pulling the axle and maneuvering the wheel rearward a bit to clear the forks, but it seems like there has to be a better way.
It looks like an extra long line would solve that problem, or even dropping the forks in the triple clamp would give enough slack to get the caliper back on the rotor.
Anyone else notice this and go with a longer line or is there something I'm overlooking ?

Numeous tire changes and have never taken the caliper off let alone dimantle the the line and master. Post some pics if possible (maybe we can get a better picture so to speak)

On a Firebolt... the easiest way to get the extra length that you are looking for is to remove the 2 bolts that hold the front brake master cylinder to the handlebar. You also have to remove the single T27 that clamps the brake line to the lower triple tree. Slide the entire front brake assembly towards the bottom of the wheel. You will be able to take the caliper off the rotor after it clears the fork leg.

This works on a Lightning also, but is a little more difficult because the brake line is clamped to the back of the flyscreen housing.

Removing the caliper is taking the long way around the barn to change out the front wheel for tire replacement.

Pull the front fender off, and with the axle out take the wheel back and up a little to clear the caliper from the rotor, then rotate lower fork tube and caliper out of the way. Wheel slides right out then.

That is the CORRECT way to take the tire out. Never have I seen any reason to do it like above.

Ditto. You guys beat me to it. Done NUMEROUS CHANGES and that's the way to do it. Remember, turn the fork. That's the key to all of this.

I take the caliper off, take the axle out, lift the wheel, wiggle the caliper and lather, rinse, repeat to install.

OK, the fact that the fork will rotate was what I overlooked. Used to 4 wheel suspension systems, I guess.
I knew there had to be a better way than the FSM...
