Can't I just change the computer clock ahead one hour instead of installing some system update to the home computer?????  | ||

yes you can it would just be a drag to have to do it manually in both spring and fall ...and then potentially 2 weeks after Mar 11th, your pc may try to change the time again...since that's when it think DST should be done (and the same in the fall) the company I work for is making such a mountain out of this molehill... | ||

double click on the clock in the bottom righthand corner. this should bring up the clock so that you can adjust it | ||

Speaking of day light savings. This is my thought on day light savings. Wouldn't it be easier to just turn the clocks ahead a half hour. If we did that we would never have to worry about it again. Beside who need day light at 8:30/9 o'clock at night. | ||

An automatic update for this patch was delivered February 26th. If your computer is configured to receive Automatic updates you shouldn't have to do a thing. I have a utility you can use to check, PM me and I'll send you everything you need. | ||

Bda, If you turn off the daylight savings option on your PC no worries. Are there still states that do not observe daylight savings? I think Indiana used to be or still is one... | ||

I think it's hilarious that the media is making a big to-do about it, like it's a borderline Y2K thing (which also happened to be not such a big deal). 1.) Move PC clock ahead 1 hour. 2.) When PC clock moves ahead another hour, set it back. MUST... SET... TIME...TWICE....! HOW WILL... WE EVER..... SURVIVE???  ~SM | ||

Well The DST stuff can be a pain when you have multiple computers to worry about. Sure doing it once for your home PC is fine. When you have 20-30 racks of servers that is a different story  We standardized on UTC, so no need to change. (Then again being a unix shop all I had to do was update the zoneinfo files,and we good to go so any scripts that need to show output to a user will still be correct). -Patrick | ||

For those that are interested, DST was put into place during the war to take advantage of the shift in daylight to cut down on electricity usage for lighting. Studies show the us saves about 1% in electricity usage. | ||

Actually Ben Franklin came up with the idea when he woke up early one morning to see it was light out (he normally slept till noon) He figured it made sense to change the time so there was more light to do things later at night. I agree, I hate it when it gets dark and I still want to get things done. I just wish the mosquitoes would adjust their watches to come out a little later. | ||

Here I go, ALREADY don't know what time it is. But, my computer did. Almost jumped in my britches and flew off to work, forgot what day it is. My Dad always said the politicians enacted daylight savings time to have more daylight golfing hours, and it sure didn't help us people who had to work till dark to have a good enough excuse to quit. | ||

How does having everyone wake up an hour earlier (when it's DARK outside) help save energy when millions of people are now flipping on lights and turning up the heat? At this same time last week, these same people were saving energy by STAYING IN BED another hour? | ||

On the otherhand................................... All Macintosh owners have to do is wake up. Computer does the rest, if left in default auto time set mode. That just leaves: 1. Kitchen clock 2. Wrist watch 3. Jeep 4. Kitchen radio 5. VCR 6. Bedside radio 7. Cell phone, ( surprisingly) 8. Coffee machine 9. travel clock 10. Lil' Blackie The " Radio Controlled" analogue clock in my studio reset itself. Quite amusing to see it take off and swing the hands for a minute or so until it's satisfied. Hope I get them all done before the noon ride with the lads.  | ||

Daylight savings???!! who cares, all my clocks still blink 12:00 at me. and when I ride, do I really need to know the time? More concerned with a GAS GAUGE to replace the low fuel light... (esp helps in the off road settings where mileage isnt important as consumption) | ||

Joking aside, I had to go in to work on Sunday, first thing, because the phone system didn't update and was telling everyone we were still closed.  When I got there, I found that the timeclocks hadn't updated, and everyone was clocked in an hour early, plus, the stupid timeclock software had frozen on the PC it was linked to, which, unfortunately shares a phone line with one of the credit card machines, which meant no one could use that machine because the stupid line was busy. This was after the "patch" designed to correct the timeclocks launched rather proactively - on Thursday - much to my dismay, also causing about 2 hours of firmware upgrades and downloads. So I spent the first hour of my day of saved light resetting electronic timeclocks, telephones and cc machines. Then logging in and correcting everyone's arrival time. What's truly funny, is probably, in three weeks, I'm going to have to do it again, when daylight savings was SUPPOSED to happen. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but also not my favorite way to start off a Sunday. Lousy Ben Frankln and his nutball ideas. | ||
