Last week I went down to Ocean Springs, Mississippi to help with the Katrina restoration. I was going to meet up with Greg (formerly Buellbozo) but we started working right away and I missed out on going for a ride with him and his friends. Anyway, he chased me down later on to talk and offer me a ride on his sailboat. He also gave me one of the Dave Guess prints of the 1983 RW750 for coming down. I really appreciate the gesture but I was wondering if there was someone who might want this and what it may be worth. I was deeply moved by the utter destruction even to this day and would donate the proceeds for the hurricane relief effort. | ||

Well that's what I was curious about. I'm not really interested in making money on it and my wife doesn't like the motorcycle motif that I like. She made me take down my beautiful pic of my S3 that a photographer used in a competition. She felt that it didn't fit in with the rest of the family room that she had just spent mega-bucks on fixing up. I thought that it looked quite nice above the fireplace (and I paid for the fix up too). It is a really cool picture (the RW) and I would rather have someone have it that would appreciate it more. Court, I take it that you don't have one? | ||

Actually I have a couple. They are not only a VERY RARE Buell item, the photo itself is "art". When that photo was taken there was no photoshop and there wasn't a nickel in the Buell budget, and I mean 5 CENTS, to take a picture. Dave Gess did it out of passion. . . . the #1 ingredient at Buell in those days . . . and there was lots of it! The photo was shot on film (anyone remember that) using some very innovative thinking. Sure. . . the subject is a motorcycle, but EVERYTHING about that picture screams BUELL. It's innovative, creative, gorgeous and inspires elevation of thought. I also have a box of the 1st issue of Battle2Win, a stack of the original RR-1000 books, the bicycle stuff and more "S-2 Timing Covers" than I'll ever need. This was neat stuff that at least to me, is the true "Art of the Buell" and will never happen again. By the way . . . the paper that photo is printed on is worth about half the price of the picture. If someone else wants it while one exists, knock yourself out but I'd be perfectly willing to plop down $50. Hey. . . how about a trade for a 100,0000th Buell Made" t-shirt? You sure won't see many of those . . . . | ||

while I'd LOVE the tee-shirt, I wouldn't trade my Ghost-Buell pic for one -- these are incredibly hard shots to make well on film, true labors of love (remember when Car&Driver or Road & Track would run em every so often?) mine hangs in the office to help me remember why i'm at work ;-} | ||

I had gotten another offer by email to buy it and I was trying to decide if it was worth it to sell. I'll wait and see a litle longer (since it is for a good cause) and then I'll let you know. It is a really cool picture and I'd like to keep it but it doesn't do any good sitting in the folder on my desk right now. You could say the auction is open.  |
