Hi, I recently had a REALLY slow layover on the right side of the trusty 12S and the $75 for a new foot peg, hand brake lever, and turn signal (front only) was surprisingly reasonable. The foot peg seemed to be specifically engineered to break in a location that left an inch or so on the bike, so I could get home without needing to 'levitate' that foot the whole way. The only other damage was a few scuff marks on the frame pucks (the best $50 I've spent so far) and the header got "THE BONK". Not so bad that I need to replace the header, though it's not pretty - Is there a product out there that can help keep the headers from getting hit in a lowside, or fall over condition? Or maybe look cool while covering the existing rash. If not, there's your next million $'s... Maybe I just need to ride better... Impulse |

Impulse, if you're interested, I have a slightly scuffed header for a 12 from my '06 that got replaced under insurance. It's almost not noticeable. I can't remember the cost of a new one... I'll check it out. Or do you want to make an offer for it if I posted a pic? I haven't got it off yet... one of my spring to-do chores... so I don't know when exactly I could get it to you. |

45, Thank you, However that's what I've got now - The current condition isn't so bad, I'd just like to avoid replacing a $300 part, especially if I can use a $50 sacrificial piece for any future scrapes... Impulse |

Impulse, I think now would be a great opportunity to jet hot your headers. If they aren't dented but just scratched, you could have them sanded and coated. You could also opt for a header wrap. I have seen sliders and cages, but they all mount to the engine. |

Thanx Bstrd, I may try the Jet Hot - And I agree with what you seem to imply that mounting things to the engine may cause more damage to even more expensive parts than just taking a few licks to the header. Impulse |

If they are just scratched, then sand the entire header and use some mothers polish then top it off with rye bread to buff. Your headers will look better then new. |

Rye bread? Is that header sandwich? |

Can you put the rye bread on the dremmel, or does it come in standard belt sizes for the sander? OK, I know this crowd loves a wiseass... |

The rye bread dremel attachment is tough to find in the hardware store, but some do carry it. Sorry, just takes some elbow grease with the rye bread. Try it you'll like it. Others on here have used it as well with great results. Besides it saves time from lunch if you have some cheese in your pocket. |

Touratech has a bash plate cover for the ULY exhaust, you should be able to put that on, but you will have to modify the mounting points maybe. I got a fist sized punch in mine when I was dirtin with my CityX... Damn low ground clearance & short leg syndrome |
