I've had my 97 S1 sitting since May 2005 and I'm now in the process of getting it back on the road. The header bolts are lookin pretty rusty and I've learned too many lessons by leaving things alone until there's catastrophic failure. I figured I could wire wheel the rust off and treat with some high temp never-seize for future protection. Any words of Wisdom? Should I replace the studs now? I'm attempting to attach a close-up pic of the header stud. If I've got the image posting figured out then I'll put a couple of the bike under the Buell pics thread. Thanks TT |

Those look exactly like mine did. I got some penetrating oil we have at work and it worked so good 3 of the nuts fell off!! I don't have the can handy. They use it one rusted injection molds in the shop. |

You can remove them using Kano AeroKroil. I would replace the nuts with new, wire-wheel the threads, and reinstall using a high-temp copper anti-sieze. The problem won't re-occur. The threads under the nut should be relatively undamaged. Just my .02 |
