Had a 25 mile an hour lay down yesterday. I will not go into details but I am ok. I had all my gear on and it did its job. Here are the parts I need: 2003 XB9S Handle bars Left Mirror Shifter linkage and hardware. The frame is dented does anyone have any experience with what an insurance company will do? |

In 2003-2004 dented frame meant TOTAL, could be different now, but I doubt it. |

Insurance company says they need an estimate. I guess I will be taking the bike to Topeka. No one in Wichita will give me an estimate |

The frame itself is not *too* expensive I don't think, but there's an awful lot of labor involved in replacing it. I woudln't be suprised if the total it. I've seen pictures of frames that were repaired and repainted, but I've felt the results were that good. |

How bad is the frame? And where? I laid mine over and put a nice gouge in the high spot where the frame pucks go. Guess I'll be adding those pucks to cover it up now. =) |

It is where the pucks would go but it is a good sized dent. I think a puck would cover it. I just need to get an estimate for repair. |

The general trend in Australia on dented frame claims is for a replacement cost & frame exchange to be quoted along with the other repairs. Back in the early days they would be totaled in a heartbeat until the industry learnt that it is wasn't such a big job and the risks weren't as high as initially assessed. This is first hand info from an insurance assessor that lives downstaires. They will definately not attempt to repair a Buell frame for road use. |

I would not think twice about buying it back as a salvage. That is a really cool way to end up with a track bike or second bike. The dealer has to take every part that got cracked or scratched, tally all those parts and if your salvage offer gives them more bucks than fixing, they'll total it and give you title. You'd be surprised how a good looking bike might be "totalled" when you can just replace some little bits and pieces and ride it again. I've crunched mine hard and dents don't scare me - I've got em on both sides (yeah, shoulda had pucks but hey, that was always going to be NEXT week... Riiiiiight!) First pic is after one time down. This frame is going into my XB-Blast project. Other two are right side (small dent) and left side (BIG DENT!) - I race the bike in this condition - no worries (yeah, I know, I know, I really should stick on the pucks on the next frame!)

I am just worried that the salvage price will not reflect what the market value of the bike is. |

I just laid mine down on the right side and with a handfull of parts and frame replacement (I had no pucks) it only came to $3100 US Dollars. Of course that was no where near totaling it, which I wish would have happenned. According to the estimate from Progressive Insurance, the frame and labor cost were $1100. Thats it. I couldn't believe it, seeing how most people had told me it was surely totaled. I will be adding the pucks to my 12S to cover up the large dent in my frame. |

The estimate was $2200 from the dealer in Lawrence. Plus a new helmet. The thing that sucks is I was going to buy some pucks for it but never did. Now I will just buy them to cover the dent! |
