Great trip!

One question.....

Why would anyone leave Alabama?

Hi Maximum,

Thanks for the report on your trip.

Did those brackets that mount from the bars to the windshield come with the Parabellum windshield?

Dickc: Yes the Parabellum came with the brackets for additional support. This was a recent change by Parabellum in order to address concerns of long term reliability of the tall windshields. The brackets come silver, but I painted them black so that they would blend it a little better.

At first I did not like the esthetics of the brackets (although painting them black helped), but after the trip I realized that the supports are extremely effective. The windshield was rock solid even to speeds up to....well, let's just say much faster than the speed limit (for testing purposes only, don't try this at home).

Anyway, here is a close up picture of the brackets from approximately my line of sight while in a normal riding position.

Ft Bstrd,
Yeah, teeth are nice but they have them so they can store away the extra insulation!

Good thread.
Thanks for sharing the story and photos.
I think you should think about running a larger windshield, maybe one like on the helicopter at the begining of every MASH episode. Then you could really ride!!!

Just kidding- enjoyed the thread.

Maximum,
I can still see some handlebar so you better attach some more gizmos to hide it.

No it does not. I know that it looks pretty tight in the picture, but there is a good 5-6 inches of clearance, which has never been an issue. I turn the handle bars to the left and approach with the fuel dispenser from the right at a slight angle. I really like the GPS in the center of my vision, so it works great for me.

Does someone make one? Actually, I was expecting many more "barn door" comments after posting my pictures. Oh well, maybe next time.

The Parabellum is a very well made windshield, and did the job that I intended it to do, but since I am done with my long winter trip I went ahead and removed it. My new replacement is the Zero Gravity dark smoke shield. I have to admit that I bought this one just because I liked the appearance, but after a short test ride, I really like the performance too. At 5’9”, the wind blast is hitting me right at the top of my shoulders, but low enough that I don’t get any increase of wind noise. Some day I will have to do a write-up comparing the stock shield, ZG, Parabellum, and with fly screen only. I have tried them all and each one has different characteristics.

I’m doing some other top secret mods to the Uly over the next three weeks, so I will post pictures on a new thread once the metamorphous is complete.

That space is already reserved for my new fuzzy dice that are on order!

Well, I am just playing around with the Zumo's data from the trip, and thought that I would give everyone a picture of the route.

The Zumo is awesome!

Excellent work Maximus,
Zumo is getting a good rep, fast.
I look forward to seeing your new mods to the Uly.
How about a pic of the Zero Gravity flyscreen?

I am going out to the shop to mount my brand new Caribou Cases right now.
Keep an eye out for a posting on the outcome.

Keep us posted.
