ok ok don't bash me because I'm thinking about getting a little bit more power out of my engine. But has anyone tried or know of anyone that have tried this on their motorcycle?

Its a electric supercharger that will provide about 1 PSI boost in your intake, it claims to increase HP about 5%.

http://www.electricsupercharger.com

I know a guy who used this on his car it really does what it claims in increasing HP about 5%. My only worry is that when this thing is on it sucks about 830 watts of power and is the battery in a motorcycle capable of delivering that much power consistently and safely?

From what I found and intuition is that its possible but do I really need 5% more HP for 300 bucks?

I don't even think anyone would be able to get it to fit on their bike...I mean...how would you get that to work with the Buell airbox?

Interesting idea though. Probably not worth $300 for 3 or 4 hp gain.

I'm not saying it's a good idea but there is a big difference in airflow from a 5.7-6.0 liter to a 1.0-1.2 liter engine. A T20 turbo won't do crap on a V8, but can make a huge gain in power on a V-twin.

We once used a backpack-style gas leaf blower to act as a supercharger on a 1990 Pontiac Bonneville. Then we cut the roof off it, and proceeded to blow up the transmission.

not a street car, of course.

Hogs,

The e-ram is not a scam. They advertise minimal power gains. Some outfits out there are scams, selling little computer fans and advertising similar gains. But the e-ram deal is not a scam. It is just not a lot of bang for the buck considering the issues that Drfudd raised and the prospect of ruining the appearance of your Buell.

I beg to differ with ya there Blake...
Also whats wrong if one has to pay say 300.00 for 5 horsepower people pay that and MORE for that amount of power or less ever day of the year...

Could you even think about how much more power this wd. put on the charging system, Not Do able in bikes and well in Cars still a joke...
Perhaps saying its a Scam is wrong, But saying its worth it or the product works as claims is Wrong... Just my Opinion, Hope I can still have an Opinion here...

Sheeeit.

I love blowers.

The base model eram is 5" tall, about the same as our rubber velocity stack. You could replace our stack, with one of these units, and set the switch to come on around 60/70% throttle. So I don't think fitting it would be a problem. I am concerned how our motors (XB12) would respond, due to the fact that they already have high compression. There may be a detonation issue. We may also lose a little bit of low rpm throttle response, due to removing the velocity stack which is tuned for our bikes.

If I had one laying around, I would try it just to see if the wot gains were worth sorting out the other issues.

As far as price, it seems rather high for a duct fan, but more than fair for the claims (if it would work).

Hell, I spent 5k for 50 hp to put a supercharger on my hardley, which gave me 10 psi boost on a stock engine.

mmmm boooooost.

I'd have to see Dyno tests. Sure seems like a scam to me. Does anyone here know what kind of CFM the 1200 moves at redline?
IMHO, that thing would only reduce air flow, decreasing HP!

One horsepower is what, 640 watts? So if you have an 840 watt device to add horsepower, subtract one HP from whatever it adds.

Thats a ton of power for an air mover by the way. On a 12 volt system, that is like 70 amps. That's gonna be a *big* wire.

I don't recall what the newer XB stators put out, but I doubt it is much more then 840 watts *total*.

If the thing only ran WOT though, it could pull power from the battery... for a while... and the battery could deliver that.

Which adds an interesting wrinkle... as you are almost running a poor mans hybrid. You slowly pump excess current into your battery (Buell uses a full loss charging system, so this is "free energy") and then use it for short bursts of peak power. Kinda neat actually, though I doubt the gains are worth the complexity and cost.

Here is a much cheaper idea, and one which I reckon you would see just as good results from. Just cut a hole in the top of your airbox directly above the rubber velocity stack. Then affix one of these plastic petrol can spouts to the airbox so that the narrow end is just inside the velocity stack.

Now when you are riding flat out and have you chin on the tank...Blow as hard as you can : )

I am also working on some other useful gadgets for motorcycles including:
handlebar mounted ash tray
chocolate coated exhaust heat shield
;)

E-Ram might be okay, but it is kinda big and clunky to install on a motorcycle. You might try another proven power-enhancer, SDRAM is much less obtrusive and sure improves the performance of my laptop. : ]

hey trojan, i see your race bike is on ebay....say it aint so??? or at least you have a back up in the wings???

as far as eram, i googled and found a number of people poo-pooing it, but no real facts one way or another, other than the owners of the company stating numerous times that they have seen 10hp gains on a porsche.

'Fraid so : (
After spending US$30000+ of our own money on the race programme last year we decided that unless we got sufficient sponsorship for it to be self supporting for this season then we would not be racing. Despite our (and Phil Read's) best efforts it was not to be, and Buell UK were certainly not interested in helping out, so we decided to call it a day on the race front (at least for now).

If the bike doesn't sell this week I will be putting it back on the road, which should be interesting : )

All of those heater motors are nothing but hot air--HP is never that easy or cheap. The energy needs to come from somewhere--be it exhaust driven or belt/gear driven.
A turbo is most bang for buck--unless you just want the momentary burst of Nitrous.
Not really that hard to fab up,just need to get fueling right.
