Over the weekend I replaced the fork fluid on my 05 City X. I had done this on my 04 12R a few weeks earlier by referring to the service manual for the 04 12R. When I put the 14oz in each leg of the City X and set my level gauge to 4.6 inches, then discovered that the fluid was way below that. Then I had a 'duh' moment and recalled that the 05 tubes are bigger. Does anyone know (have the manual) what the level is supposed to be for the 05 forks? |

Rhun, The 06 manual for a XB12R, shows 4.21 in (107 mm) from the top of the fork tube in a vertical position. 06 forks are 43mm. Hope this helps. Brian |

I have the manual for my '05 XB9R, and here's what it says: 1. Pour 8 oz. into the fork pipe. 2. Pump the damper rod 12-15 times or until resistance is felt. 3. Place the damper rod in the fully bottomed position and compress fork completely. 4. Pour 8 oz. more oil into the fork slider. 5. Adjust fork oil level with fork oil gauge to 4.57" (116mm) from the top of the fork tube. 6. Install spring and collar. 7. Move fork assembly to fork spring compressor. 8. Install preload washer and slider piston. 9. Hold damper rod assembly and install fork cap on damper rod assembly tightening to 22-30 ft-lbs. Hope that helps. Schmitty |

I am curious, though, since the 06 12R says 4.21 and the 05 9R says 4.57 and I have the SX what the difference is, as I thought all the forks from 05 and 06 were the same and the rake was the same between the R and the S. |

Rhun, Ya, me too, I double checked after Schmittys post(4.21). I would of thought the XBcg and Uly to be the only different ones. Maybe someone with a 05 SX manual will post up, If not, Schmittys (4.57)is probably closer than my 06 specs. Brian |
