it is a common misconception that the south owns all the rednecks. here in ny we have our own special blend of redneck. a curiously angry little creature that if you can catch will show you the way to it's pot of gold(an old cooler of shafer). |

It ought to be good for a laugh or two before you get south of the Mason/Dixon After that it ain't funny anymore is it...As said before,i've never been so far from home but,the civil was of 1861 is still no joke is it? I'm just trying to get a feel for the seriousness of that situation.. |

I'm just trying to get a feel for the seriousness of that situation.. Don't act like a jerk and you will be treated with all the respect you deserve. I grew up in Northern Ont. and know more rednecks up there than down here, trust me. I've been here since 1992 after 10 years in Ct. I felt immeasurably more welcome South of the MD line than I ever was in the Northeast. To me you're all Yankees. |

We're good people, only tired of the same ol' jokes, and some that act like they are better, or of more high class and the like. Most people of the South are proud to be Southern, and some take that as backwards. Being proud of one's heritage makes one not any less of a person. I think one of the things that really did in the South are people that don't care to learn about the South, or the culture. The KKK did the South no favors, they took our flag (the Stars & Bars) and made it into a racist symbol, so that no one can fly the flag without being called racist. We have a great sense of humor, and are able to laugh at ourselves. One of the things I personally dislike the most, are the stereo typical jokes, they may have been funny once, and in the right context can still be funny, but mostly it's just old. The movie Deliverance did the South no favors either. I come from the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, the Great Smoky Mountains, I am a Hillbilly and proud of it. I am totally politically un-correct, just tired of the same ol' cliche. Don't sweat being serious about anything, we're here to have fun, as everyone should be. Respect will get you respect in return. Damn y'all, I didn't mean to get so serious, I'll hop on down from this soap box, and continue counting the days until MB-IV. |

Thanks for that Dan. I guess I should type faster, as well as finish a thought and post, rather than try to do too many things at once! |

"you'll be at the Holiday Inn Express right?" That's the plan Brad, 8AM sounds fine by me. If I get there early enough Thursday, I might meet with Paint_shaker to nail down details for the run to the Dragon and make sure nothing falls off the bike. |

I did not, and do not have an attitude. But MB-IV will be a huge experience for me.I don't want to risk offending the hosts.Heck,i want to see Dahlonega, for the gold heritage. My wife&i are history buffs. She's a Mayflower&DAR societies board member.So.....understand,i harbor no steriotype(sp) of southerners,if i did i wouldn't be trying to join your party.I shouldn't be defending myself.See Y'ALL in march! |

hey...as long as everyone is prepared to hang out, have fun, share some great riding in what looks to be incredible surroundings and chase it all with a lot of cold beer, I think everything is gonna be hunky dory but I'm just a simple kid who grew up on an island...so I may be missing something... |

Southerners are just like Northerners, except they don't talk funny. "i harbor no steriotype(sp) of southerners" You probably will before you go back home. |

I retired from the Army down here in East L.A. (lower Alabama) 10 years ago. I am originally from Michigan and the wife is from PA. Do we miss the snow? Heck yea! Do we miss being closer to family? Most times. Do we miss ice skating, snowmobiling, snowball fights, snowboarding, etc? Of course. Do I miss the high property taxes? Heck no! Do I miss the high property prices? No! Do I miss my vehicle rusting itself to death every 5 years or so? Heck no! We were in PA one year for Christmas doing some last minute shopping at The Evil Empire (Wally World) and my wife said 'Stop! Look, there's more rednecks here than down home!' As I looked around I realized that the south definitely does not have the market cornered on the redneck population by any margin. My riding season is year round. Boating season is a few months longer. I'm an hour away from the Gulf. People, for the most part are friendly. There is something to that Southern Hospitality thing. For the most part we enjoy our home and lives down here. There are things we miss but we wouldn't be here if we didn't WANT to be. Sure, a good Redneck joke is a hoot sometimes, as is a Mexican joke (I'm half Mexican) or any other joke- when the time and place is right. MB is a truly good time with a lot of folks getting together brought there by a common thread- Buells. I have made some great friends since MBII and although they are hours away from me, I talk to them quite frequently. I have yet to see any hostilities at MB and figure it will continue that way. I like here it down here. See ya'll very soon! Yee Haaaaaw!! |

From the desk of Kirk Mellish (damn near the most respected weatherman ever) some good news. After Sunday the worst of winter at least in temps is probably behind us. Some notable warm spells will alternate with notable cold snaps thru mid March. Winter is on the way out, at least around here, good news for March Badness! |

I am ready for riding weather again! I need a couple above 50 degree days to get a feel for this bike. Of the 5-6 hundred miles I've put on it since I bought it, It's never been over 45, and these Dunlop's don't like cold one bit, and I haven't had the guts to lay into a corner on this cold pavement. Ooooo I can't wait for March. |
