People have been chopping, modifying, parting out, and generally butchering motorcycles since motorcycles were invented. Motorcycles in general have always attracted people that are a little 'off' anyway. Some of use are just a lot more 'off' than the others.

I'm glad to see you learned how to crop pics. Now you need to learn how to understand what you're reading. The only snide remarks I made were directed at mutants, but you didn't see that. It seems that you see what you want to.
I would caution you that flag-waving mixed with religious ideology have been responsible for millions of deaths, massacres, and tortures from the Old Testament through the Holy Roman Empire, through the Crusades, through the Inquisition, and still continue to this day. All in the name of Jesus Christ or his Father on one side, and the heretic of the moment on the other. A top US general in Iraq said that the war was a religious crusade early on, but he was returned stateside for spilling the beans. Meanwhile we are spoon-fed the rosy picture by the propagandists, and 28% of those polled still swallow it.
I would remind you that every time you pull your Gs it is the blood of dead American soldiers, at the rate of 2 per day, that is coursing through your motor. Along with the blood of hundreds of thousands of Iraqi civilians. Hell, the pentagon is even fudging the figures on our wounded troops, while Halliburton and Exxon enjoy record profits, and Bush and Cheney's stock portfolios keep increasing. But you probably don't see that. You probably just gas up and go. Did Vietnam teach you that the government is to be trusted on matters of foreign wars?
That's real human blood there, not the ceremonious blood of your long-dead Lord and Savior. I'd say you're the one who's being snide and lording it over the rest of us.
As for what I did in the army, I just said what I did. If you feel offended by that then that's your issue. I've been riding Harleys for decades and no bikers that I know are offended by combat infantrymen; in fact, many of the old bikers I know did that same job. Many of us built our Harleys into choppers decades ago and still ride them, getting back to the idea behind this thread. I was just wondering if any Buell riders here did that. Not many of us left, it's always good to find someone who shared your experiences, be it on building a chopper or being in the army. |

What the hell does this crap have to do with chopping Buells? If you two need to bash each other, please take it off-line.
Customing Buells is one thing, and I like 'em... as long as they stay Buells. Chopping a Buell, i.e. just using the motor, does not make it a Buell, in my opinion. |

I'm hoping that when enough Buells get Mutated, My silly RS (put into it's present state by a guy known for the customs & choppers he builds!) will finally achieve some degree of collectable or other value. Counting the new retail cost, customizing, performance enhancements, etc. invested by it's several owners would come to probably around 30 G's. I'd be fortunate to get 1/5 of that on the current market!

I do like the RED Neck engineering Mutant chopper, pretty cool IMHO. Never the less I couldn't do that to my own bike unless I wrapped the frame around a tree... |

I just inherited an early 70's hardtail frame of unknown origin. It was left behind in the manufacturing plant I work at by a prospect for the local 1%ers. He had to leave town... permanently. The frame is for an iron Sportster and came with a springer front end, minus the springs and hardware. I don't think the frame will handle any kind of power, but I bet it would be a blast with a... well, a Blast engine. Sorry Blast guys.
The point is moot for me anyway. I couldn't rub two nickels together right now. |

Sorry guys....I have fun on mine.
Bought my Buell new and enjoyed it very much as an X1. It brought me much joy....and a fair bit of heartache too  .
I felt like something different, and this was an affordable switch, not to mention a ton o' fun to build.

I thought about doing something with mine when I first got my M2, based on how cheap it was ... but after riding it I coudln't, now I have an S1 to go with the M2 ...
The redneck mutants, personally I think are butt ugly.... caboose - yours looks decent - nice lines, tank mates up very well - unlike the redneck bikes, those look like hacked together junk (again .. my opinion)
There are specifically 2 chopped Buell's I would love to get my hands on ... both done differently, but both done well, they don't look like the redneck bikes, let's see if I can dig up pics...
Only thing I don't like about either is the forcewinder air cleaner...
and the other ..
We have a guy local who does a lot of Buell chopping, the only good thing is he buys up the near dead junk ones, that most people wouldn't think about fixing back up. Which is good for me because in an emergency, he can help out with parts.
One doesn't have to like the chopping of Buell's, but little can be done to stop it, and it doesn't pay to bitch about it, other than to hear yourself complain ...

Why do "WE" have to have an opinion one way or another? If it's not your bike or money what the hell difference could it possibly make? I second the above "Hey, to each his own..!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Seems to me that's the freedom of choice we're all supposed to be able to enjoy! |

Caboose's chop is a redneck engineering bike. They have a few different styles now, including a "mono-shock" version that has the engine suspended with no engine cradle.
His looks like the original style mutant with a custom tank.
I really like the looks of the RE Bobber mutant. The lines flow really well on those. If I were to build a chopper I'd build one of those from a wreck or ebay parts.

The majority of the RE projects I have seen do not look good, they look like a bunch of mismatched parts got thrown together ... Let me find links to the bikes that show what I don't like about the RE mutants..

Those show the style I don't care for ... I don't think artistically they work .. lines are everything on a bike, especially a chop. (these bikes may only be subtly different from caboose's chop, but the top line of the bike tells it all)
But someone likes them, otherwise they wouldn't be built ...

I saw this one at the 'David Mann Memorial Chopper Fest' in Ventura CA last Dec.
I liked the lines of this one better than most of the RE Mutants. With the XL tanks, they always look kinda awkward - like the tank was a total afterthought and just stuck on the frame without any attention to the lines and design of the bike.

I agree with tattoo and sleez, it's your money do what you want with it. Redneck's has a arched frame in which the motor is suspended that I think is pretty cool. It could be made very light and use most of the Buell parts. I could see adding one to the stable when I get myself some more money that I can do what I want with. There's two variations, one with the tank between the rails and one more traditional with the tank on top of the frame. Both I think would make excellent "chops". I personally would rather find a wrecked or parts bike to chop because I can't see destroying a perfectly good stock bike someone could use or ride. Just my opinion. When I get rich I will build one and send pics |
