Due to a recent lowside with a highside twist, I need a new lid. I had the Buell X helmet by KBC(Big orange X on black helmet), and liked it alot. It took a glancing blow. It MIGHT be ok, buy why risk it. Pros and cons of the two brands would be great. Also considering KBC modular but I heard they lift.... (Message edited by disturbed on February 07, 2007) |

Two website that offer evaluations and opinions about helmets. I didn't pay attention to either and bought a Zox Supercomp R. www.helmethatbor.com www.webbikeworld.com/ motorcycle-helmets/motorcycle-helmets.htm |

I've never tried KBC but I have a Scorpion EX700. I havn't worn it in while since I ran out of contact lenses (I'm wearing a Nolan N102 modular currently due to eye glasses). It's a very snug but very comfortable fit. It's not the lightest helmet out there compared to some Arai or some Shoei models but it is far from the heaviest. It is in fact the lightest helmet that I have owned. The previous lightest being a Shoei that I bought in 1992. The strap has traditional D rings & it's padded. There is also a snap to keep the loose end from flapping in the wind. The fogless faceshield is just that. It is quick to pop on & off. It's the quickest system I've seen thus far. On the down side, my shield doesn't seal well against the helmet and in really heavy fog (the kind where you can't see ten feet ahead of you) I get lots of condensation on the inside of the shield. Other than that it's an awesome helmet. The vests work well and the whole liner comes out and can be tossed in the washing machine. If you end up getting a Scorpion I recommend paying the extra $6 or $7 for the chin curtain. It reduces wind noise & turbulence quite a lot. |

I have the scorpion ex400 and it works great. I also have to agree with Metalstorm on the heavy fog. The airflow in the helmet is also good. I like the faceshield system as I switch them often due to times of going to and leaving work. |

I have the Scorpion EXO 700 and really like it, but I have to agree with Metalstorm. Condensation is a big problem. This is my first helmet so I don't know if it is a problem with other helmets. Is it a problem with other helmets? |

Not all helmets have this problem. I have a Nolan 102 that works well in the fog. It seals very tight against the helmet. The chin vent works well for keeping it condensation free plus the extra draft you get from modular (flip up front) helmets doesn't hurt either. The only draw back is that it is heavier and not as comfortable as the Scorpion. I'm wondering if it is because the Scorpion shield doesn't seal against the helmet well that makes it so fog free? I can breath on it as hard & fast as I can & it stays clear. In warmer (read no fog) weather I prefer my Scorpion over everything else. (Providing I have contact lenses cause the eye glasses I have don't fit well in the Scorp.) (Message edited by metalstorm on February 28, 2007) |

Thanks for the information. Next winter I guess I will have to think about buying a different helmet. |

I just bought a Scorpion, Crack Head model and absolutely LOVE it! I also have A KBC High Octane helmet that came with the bike. The KBC is o.k but not as comfortable as the Scorpion. One of the great advantages of the Scorpion is that they do not fog up at all. For a $225 helmet (and that is the more expensive one) it is worth every freakin penny!! |

I've been running a Scorpion Exo-700 for almost 2 years now. They certainly run small... if you wear a large in every other brand, you'll need an extra large Scorpion. They're great helmets. For the level of protection offered, there's no better deal out there. The clear and smoke tinted visors have an anti-fog coating that is literally IMPOSSIBLE to fog. I've done my best at 40'F to fog it up, can't be done. The colored/chromed shields are NOT anti-fog (just FYI). The visor seal IS kinda' crappy. I've never been caught in much rain with it, but I know when I wash all the bugs off and rinse it with the sink sprayer, it leaks on the inside in a few places. never been an issue thus far, luckily. Also, it's a little TOO drafty. In hot weather that's a good thing, but in cold weather, you can close the 238 vents and it'll STILL freezerburn your face, even with the chin curtain. I sometimes have problems with my contact lenses drying out because of the constant, unrelenting airflow. That said, I'd buy another in a heartbeat. I'm actually going to buy their new model when it comes out this summer. I've forgotten what it's supposed to be called, but it has an air pump cushion system (to fit all you lumpy heads out there) and, more importantly, built in flip down sunglasses. http://www.scorpionusa.com/news/product.html ~SM (Message edited by Swordsman on April 25, 2007) |
