If I had $11,500 and couldn't buy a XB12, I think I'd rather have 500 cases of Sam Adams. It's money better spent, and I can't even speak Italian. |

Thats a good price, if you are willing to have a heavier bike that makes less HP then an XB12. Seriously though, thats a great price for a great bike, just like the XB12. I think both will sell well, and I would enjoy owning or riding either! |

I wouldn't waste my money on an ORDINARY air cooled Ducati. For the money a Buell is the easy winner, hands down. And I'M a Ducatisti. However....the package is COOL. |

I'm very suprised the direction this thread took! The Ducati Hypermotard was my favorite bike at the entire international motorcycle show this year. http://www.webbikeworld.com/ducati-motorcycles/hyp ermotard/ If I could only get one bike, the Hypermotard isn't practical enough, but if I could get a couple bikes, you better believe this bike would be on the list of Bikes to Test! |

Good. . . then try to get one. I was implying that I would take the Buell hands down. |

I took a good long hard look at the Hypermoto just two weeks ago. Admittedly it was a pre production model, but never the less, all but as good as what we can expect come April. I like my Ducatis, and the Hypermoto is I'm sure going to prove to be a great bike. That said, I think it's way over priced and a little short of the mark for Ducatis top of the range usual build quality. There are poor design issues too, that would make me question how much of a fashion statement the Hypermotor really is.
This type of downpipe clamping was troublesome for years on Honda C50 / 70 / 90 Step Thru's. Stuck right in the debris and weather thrown from the front tyre. Corrosion, snapped studs were rife on the Honda models. I don't see the Ducati fairing any better. The oil pipes are not ideally placed if you were to consider a little off road riding too. Ditto the starter motor. A protective shield or plate of some design wouldn't have gone amiss. Rocket |

Being a Buell addict and this being a Buell site, I could care less what Ducati does. |

The rear brake lever could have been so easily hinged. For this type of bike it's asking to be broken off. For £8000 I'd want the small details to make up for the big price.

Frame welds rather crude too. These are from the sub frame.

Plastic front brake pipes are a cheap touch too for a pricey motorcycle.

Things are not so bad though. The 1098 is in my opinion going to attract customers who've never owned a Ducati previously. Particularly R1 owners me thinks!
The 916 remains the best looking of all though!!!! Rocket |

And if Ducati build quality is not good enough for you, there's no doubting this Ducati T Bob is the very best of the very best. Every single item hand built except the fork internals and the engine internals. Everything else, including wheels and brake discs were made by the owner, or in some way altered or modified, like the engine cases. Stunning beyond belief in the flesh.
Pictures don't do the T Bob justice. They make it look more show rather than go. Stood next to it it does look very usable and a lot less just show. Rocket |

Well I gotta moan about the 1098 too. The fairing is styled very much like the current Moto GP bikes, which means it is damn near as far forward as the front of the wheel. To say Ducati were not thinking R1 or 'turning Japanese' would be an understatement. Has anyone noticed the 1098 headlights look like Firebolt ones? The fairing is too Japanese for my tastes. Tamburini wouldn't have allowed that. Rocket |

Thats a good price, if you are willing to have a heavier bike that makes less HP then an XB12. Acutally, it's a lighter bike (at 385lb) that makes only 3 hp less than the Buell TT. But the Buell is cheaper by about $1200. And less maintenance. But nowhere NEAR as sexy (IMHO). |

looks like Ducatis is addressing price across the range -- the 1098 is a stunning piece of work, no matter what factoring in the price, it's amazing now, where can a fella of a certain age get a new set of knees at a Badweb discount? ;-} |

Three less hp at the crank... but I have a sneaking suspicion a higher percentage of that will get to the rear wheel than in the Buell. Just a feeling that I have, but there do seem to be tremendous hp losses between the crank and rear wheel in modern Buells. I'm at a loss to know why, but the magazines routinely measure only 82hp at the rear wheels of the XB12 bikes. |

The bronze nuts on the Ducatis' exhaust do not corrode so it is not as bad as you might think, unlike the Honda models which used steel nuts. jimidan |

now, where can a fella of a certain age get a new set of knees at a Badweb discount? Not sure you'd need new knees with the motard. Now the 1098...that's another story |

when i see threads like this one, it makes me want to join a Corvette site and then start threads like this one about how much i like the new mustangs or chargers or etc and see how they react for the cost of a Buell XB12...you can actually buy one and be a great addition to this site for Buell enthusiasts i think the title of the thread is actually what is so rotten about it...like you are inferring why would someone actually buy the Buell...maybe i am taking it wrong. |
