I did have to change the rear tapered bearings on my Sportster but this is the first time I've ever had fronts go bad. Could not get the bearing spacer to slide over to get a drift in so I had to take it to a shop w/correct bearing removal tool. Standard 6204 double sealed bearings & when I pulled them in (using outer race only) with my allthread/nuts/spacers/etc. the inner races were pressing so tightly on the spacer that the bearings were very hard to turn. Turns out that the bearing recesses were cut slightly too deep and after moving one bearing out slightly so the spacer is just barely held between the inner races. Now I can move the spacer over if it needed to where before the spacer was under too much pressure from the inner races. 30,000mi on my '02 S3T and front bearings shot just didn't seem right...Later,,, De |

Maybe you could take a little off the spacer. Kinda tricky tho as too much grinding=wobbly wheels. Not sure about the S3 but M2 are usually up for wheel bearing failure starting around 15k so you did pretty good w/30k. That is a thought, maybe some spacers are too long, contributing to premature bearing failure. That and many bearings are made in France or China, not exactly hotspots for quality bearing production, historically speaking. |
