Okay, I've now had my bike for a little over a year and it will soon have it's third recall. I bought an American engineered bike, with a bunch of foreign made parts, maybe they should try getting some Asians to engineer it....I never had any problems with theirs. What about all these so called experts, that spent so much time testing these things before they went to market....That must have been one big drunken orgy. The biggest problem is our local Buell dealer, in northwest LA, is absolutely clueless, I have seen and heard nothing but horror stories about their service department. I absolutely can't stand the thought of them touching anything I own. If I want the parts to fix my own bike, I have to buy them myself...what a rip-off. Does anybody know if you have 3 recalls on the same vehicle, would it be grounds for using the Lemon Law? In baseball you get 3 strikes and your out....why not motorcycles? Come on America...We can do better than this....This is just awful to spend prime dollars for so many problems....The 3 from the recall list are minor compared to most of the ones that came with the bike. |

Have you had anything break? I haven't yet - and I'm not really out of shape about them fixing sh*t before it does break either. Sorry about the dealer - mine's real good - but on the other side of the pacific to you. |

Well yes a couple of things have broken, and even more have melted...Wow what a great bike. If they could have just engineered it better and put it through the ringer a little????? Are these the guys who used to work for Yugo? It's really a great bike, but then again it's a turd. Oh well. |

Check out this web site - but I don't think 3 separate issues apply with the Lemon Law. See what your state laws are. http://www.autosafety.org/lemonlaws.php |

Please...give us a friggin' GD Break!!! I've owned BMW's, Yammies, Honda's, and now a Buell. This thing is the best made bike thus far. Far better than my BMW 2002 R1150RT. Are you for real or are you simply bitching? The two recalls and coming third are minor. AND you can talk directly to the factory. Yeah, the dealer network sucks the hind tit. However, I truly think you should sell your Buell, buy a BMW, and check back with us in a year. |

I bought one of the first Uly's and the only reason that I would purchase it again is to insure that I would have the experience of meeting all of the great people on this forum again. Badweb is the best part of a Buell. My motorcycle has been problematic to say the least and in all honesty it's days in my garage are numbered but I will miss the folks on the forum when that day comes. Buell would have been wise if they had been more responsive to the small percentage of the few that put their money where their mouth was and purchased an American motorcycle even though it cost them more than a metric alternative. My issue now is that I do not feel comfortable passing this bike on to someone else without full disclosure which will surely cost me. This may make some Buellers angry but not to the level of my frustration. |

Lemon Laws apply to the same problem 3 times - So NO! As far as a metric bike for the same money, what is even close to the Uly?? |

Recalls? You gotta be frickin' kidding me? Crappy companies don't do anything about their known problems. How many for F150s had to burn up before they addressed the cruise control module? How many Exploders had to roll over before Ford addressed the tire problem? Do us all a favor. Put a for sale sign on it and buy something else. Maybe an import? Well Fat Bastard, maybe working behind the counter at Taco Bell and getting the hot and mild sauces mixed up is okay in your world. These things are such a small production number, you'd think they'd have time to get it right. You can keep your import....I buy something with "American Motorcycles" proudly displayed on the tank and I expect better. This crap is what is sending all our jobs to China and Korea these days. I'd buy a BMW but I've never suffered from penis envy. |

I buy American. I buy a Honda built in Ohio. I buy a Toyota built in Kentucky. I buy a Nissan built in MS. I just don't buy UAW. You have to have at least 30 posts on Bad Web before you can be a dick! No other manufacturer on the planet takes the time, effort, and energy that the Buell folks do. This is the single greatest repository of those who strive to build, support and ride Buells. For every troll there are 100's of folks who have been helped by this forum and by the Buell Factory (including me). Unfortunately, you will receive none of that assistance at this point. I for one would appreciate it if you took a crap in someone else's yard! |

Buell Customer Service is first rate. I doubt you've given them a chance to HELP you work through these issues. For your own sanity please move on to a problem free, bench race championship winning, do it all, latest, greatest, flash necessity. The Badweb complaint department isn't entirely courteous; as you might be able to tell. NUTS I tried like hell to be neutral; wouldn't take. |

Ntmmd8r... Perhaps i was a little harsh and perhaps you were venting over a 3rd recall, which simply may be the last straw for you based upon other problems which you haven't shared. What are your options? You can certainly sell your Uly and go onto something else. But I challenge you to find something else in the new bike market that delivers as much fun for the dollar as the Uly. Yes, as i stated before I'm unhappy with my local dealer as well. But you owe it to yourself to look elsewhere and then check back. My experience with BMW --- they took a big stinky crap and let it fester in my tankbag! They can take their overpriced RT's, K's and GS's and kiss my pale, white ass. After 3 dealer visits to fix a timing issue on my RT they actually gave up. I finally found relief through an independent that understood how to tune the damn oilhead. Maintenance cost on my BMW vs. the Buell....how about 3-5x more $$$ for the BMW. Parts/Accessories? I'm still giggling over the retail costs of my Buell tankbag and tall windshield. A pittance, compared to the anything that BMW puts their proud roundel on. Don't even get me started on BMW's shaft drive failures. But season that with the fact I put 25k on my BMW and only have 3k on my Uly. Time will tell and perhaps I'll change my tune. Suzuki? Forget it, at least here locally....both dealers pompous asses to someone that is taking the time to do their homework. Good luck taking a test ride on a VStrom. Their answer was to buy the bike, then ride it. If I don't like it in 1 hour, they refund my money. WFT? How stoopid do I look. I ran out of there so fast the door couldn't hit me on the way out. What else? KTM, Tiger, Aprilia. Just not enough dealer support or market share to make it worth my while to investigate...though I'm always envious of other's cool bikes. So another option.....have you talked to Buell Cust. Service about your issues? That is a huge benefit that really makes me more warm and fuzzy, especially after I have underwhelming dealer visits. Also, you have a gentleman on BadWeb named Court that is personal friends of Erik Buell and probably the single biggest customer advocate here. He knows how to get results and is a polite and nice guy. I digress. We all know, there is NO perfect bike. But I'm truly sorry that you're not feeling great about Buell and your Uly. I hope it works out for you whatever you decide in the long run. Ride safe. (Message edited by chinook on February 09, 2007) (Message edited by chinook on February 09, 2007) |

Ntmmd8r... My Uly is currently sitting in the shed waiting a service window for the 32,000km service next week. I have had quite few little issues and at one stage (about 16,000Km ago) the inability of my servicing dealer to find a broken wire causing the clock to reset, along with repeatedly avoiding warranty issues got me into a very negative frame of mind. Fortunately I realised that the real issue was the good-for-nothing dealer and distributor in our country and the poor old Uly was the victim here. I made the decision there and then to give up whining about them not wanting to honour the warranty and fix it myself. Since then the love affair has continued. I find that this machine with my little upgrades here and there is more of a 'partnership' and has only enhanced the experience. It is all about perspective really - it is very easy to get the old head into a bad place. As for recalls - my Uly shares the shed with a Kawa ZX-12 and that had 4 recalls within the first 18 months from new. - the fuel tank overflow tube could crack and empty the fuel tank over the back wheel (I would put that in the 'really bloody serious' category). - the fuel gauge would show incorrect fuel level (nuisance value once you knew about it but I'm sure the people who ended up pushing didn't think so). - the washers under the nut securing the valve holder in the wheels could allow air to leak (another little gem). - the loom from the alternator could allow oil to travel up the wire and accumulate in the electrical connector under the seat resulting in the connectors overheating and burning up (another fairly serious issue). Unless you have production standards of the aircraft industry where every single component is inspected (along with the huge costs) you simply won't buy consumer-level perfection. I'm sorry to hear you have had such a bad run with this bike but in my experience a fresh approach can really work wonders. |

I'm sorry to hear you have had such a bad run with this bike but in my experience a fresh approach can really work wonders. +1 My seat got hot and was too tall, I hated to wax around the BUELL logo on the tank, my bars were too low, my foot slipped of the peg in the rain once, my headlights were cheap and dim, my Buell was too damn quiet, my bike came without a skid plate and the windshield was too low... I bought some bankies and a pipe from Odie, I removed the logo, added some Rox risers, off road pegs, found some bright azz headlights, a skid plate and taller tinted windshield, and I spent less money than if I had bought some bike that came with all that stuff, and I had a blast working on it. Now my bike fits me perfectly, and it has never been to the stealer once. These are solid and simple motorcycles. Maybe you should consider one of these asian performance bikes. I will donate my stickers to add to the bling factor. |

Defective product? Lemon Laws? My bike's main defect seems to be that it falls over a lot, mostly on it's left side; I'd like to blame this on the side-stand, but it is usually in the up-and-locked position when this happens. Surely an Austrian, German or Japanese bike would not do this! Operator error? Impossible! I would like to see the Buell engineers resolve this gravitational defect before any of the other issues! ________________________ Seriously, if your bike pings, this will certainly put you in a bad mood, perhaps even a perpetually bad mood. Have you taken Murrae up on his ping resolution effort? If not, you need to. Can somebody post the link? Until I can bring myself to part with my bike for a couple of days to let the service folks resolve the ping, I've been using about 3-6oz of octane booster (per tank) to mitigate the ping; thus far, I have been happy (maybe too happy?) with the results. |

I may be missing something but I have an 06 and have only had one recall for the side stand. Granted my lic. plate light housing fell off, but I considered that sort of a tongue in cheek nod by Eric to Harley history and reputation. Fixed under warrenty no questions. I understand that perhaps there is going to be a recall to repostion the BAS but is there something that I do not know about the two recalls that I have not yet received. |

Ntmmd8r, Sorry to hear of your trouble. If you'd like some help, please PM me with all the unimpassioned history and issues that you feel need resolved, the ones you have had trouble resolving through your dealership. Please include your name, the dealership in question, and the VIN for your Uly. We'll be glad to try to help if we can. |

There are now three recalls on the XB12X. Two existing, and one in-process. 1. Kickstand 2. Extended windshield recall (only if you have the extended windshield) 3. BAS (in-process.) |

Tread, That license plate mount looks awesome too, it kinda changes the look of the whole bike enough that it looks like it could jump over small buildings in a single bound! Oh yeah, Ntmmd8r (not mind he ate her?) WTF?? Try a new GM truck. I had one in '97 that did go back under Lemon Law. After a failed engine change, A/C repair, and complete brake failure where it couldn't be driven the last six months I owned it and they back charged me $1.00 per mile for use at $8,000. My '03 GMC spent six more days in the shop than I had it for its first three months. After the last of eight warranty issues have been repaired it has been flawless for the last three and one half years. If you want perfect right out of the box, I've had one new Dodge do that for 35,000 miles, but I hated the truck so it didn't matter. I Had a new City-X for 12,000 miles, the only issue was a turn signal wire came loose. My Uly has had several issues that would have really burned me if not for the people on this BadWebb. If you had come to this forum and read threads covering your issues or simply asked anyone here, you would have had the help and resources you need to get that awesome machine on its feet. The problems are easily resolved and the useless dealer is heartily bashed here. This is one of the few times that I have ever seen a majority of BadWebbers tell someone to pound it in your a$$ without getting to even know you. Three minor recalls and a couple of warranty issues are nothing for a new machine.......attitude is everything to get them resolved. |

Time to rob this thread. Lord of the Rings was a waste of gigabits. The only thing I liked about it was the walking and talking trees. Frodo is as gay as they get. Oh yeah, I did wake up when those mastadons thundered into the picture. The rest just made me say "Who Cares?". |
