Think of the floss as a fuse! What I like about that picture is the attention to detail. Someone spend a lot of time on a pair of jeans to remove nearly all the jeans. Looks like a skeletonized watch movement but with butt cheeks. |

Been riding the bike to work every morning (0500) and testing and adjusting the light mounts. The final adjustable mount looks like this: Basically, the lights are inverted and bolted together with the driving light on the right of the bike, and the spot on the left. I removed my blinker spacers and installed them inside the cowling, which provided a good pivot point for the back of the light. Adjustability is good with the driving light set at 88* and the spot at a deadly 90*. Bulbs are still 100w halogen at 3000k. Wiring was simple as I used the factory wiring by simply removing the plug and using the water tight connectors that come with the racelights. I have been using the factory wiring for 6000 miles with twin 65w both on together without any issues. I only have one light at a time on now, but have hit the flash to pass quite a few times without any issues. It would probably be better to use a relay to control the lights, but for now-she seems just fine like it is. I need to get a rattle can of matching paint to bake on the brackets. I will be trying a pair of 100w 3250k bulbs this weekend, I will get some better pics of the stainless steel pivot mounts to post for those who are still interested. All in all, I am super pleased with the light output from the fuego racelights and they do live up to the "DeathRay" heritage.

Wow, I like your setup! (I'd keep the color on the lights, it makes the bike look meaner). |

The red rings kinda give it that "don't jack with me. I haven't slept for a week!", psycho look.

hey tread, how did you mount the lights to each other? did you have to totally disassemble them? |

Sleez, Mounted the housings together with a stainless steel 3/8" x 1.5" bolt and locknut with shock washers on each end and a large ss fender washer between them. This allows the lights to move independently for adjustments, but also be rather secure in the rubbermounts. |

Congratulations you found a way to make a dark Uly look almost as good as an orange one! But really, you do excellent work. It looks great. (Message edited by etennuly on February 08, 2007) |

Those look great. How's the pencil beam work out? Would you go with it again, or get two driving lights? |

Thanks guys. The pencil beam works great for me, and if I had it to do again I would do the same. While these lights are way better that the stockers with upgraded bulbs, this mod might not be for everyone. For example: If you don't like seeing the nasty neck hairs on the people inside the cage in front of you, this mod is not for you. If you feel guilty for burning the face off of the SUV driving soccer mom with the bright lights on while talking on the cell phone, then this mod is not for you. These lights will get you noticed in both good and bad ways, so if the local po-lice department has a hard-on for you, then this mod is not for you. For those of you still wanting the power of the sun at your finger tips, and are willing to accept both the good and bad merits-I offer the following: Here is a shot of the template drawings for the fender brace and sidemounts for the fuegos. Disregard the dimensions for the fender brace, as the one I made was too long and had to be cut/redrilled during the installation. (So yur kinda on your own there). Here is a look at the fender brace and light sidemounts after cutting and beading, with stainless steel hardware. A look at the installed fender brace-so you get the idea. The fender is much more solid like this than it was bolting to the factory headlight. A shot of the rear pivot brace made out of a ss scrap while drinking tequilla last Saturday night. uummmm, sorry-no dimensions there either. Basically, they bolt to the back of each light, and go up high enough to fit over the turn signal shaft once the spacers are moved to the inside of the cowl. Low beam. High beam. Don't forget....NEVER look directly into the beams of these lights while drinking tequilla. |

Damn, now I have to spend more money on lights. Just when I thought I had a decent work around from the dim set of factory offerings. You know your lights suck if you have to slow down because you cant see through the corner on blind bendy dirty roads. Will have to paint those rings . Valencia is still the faster ORANGE. |

Baja Designs told me they could put the black rings on them if I wanted. I don't know why I didn't get the black ones, but I kinda like the red eyes now. |

Off-Road-Use Only? I'll toss some negative comments into the discussion: Those lights would surely be a menace to on-coming traffic in the rain. Even on "low beam" you are still running 100W, right? Yowzah! Having been blinded to the point of nearly running off of the road by cagers who deem their need to see more important than my need to see, I really have a lot of pent-up angst with respect to this issue. ....sorry to be taking it out on you! Use caution when approaching a bike that has a lot of retro-reflective tape on it, as you might just poke out your own eye with those things! Have you thought of adding some extra resistance into the circuit, so that, at the flick of a switch, you could tone them down into something closer to street legal? Granted, anything less than the nominal ~12V at the filament may have it burning a little more yellow than normal. ...there, I have now rained enough on this parade. |

L_je, I think that there is a 55W bulb available. At least keep the low beam legal. Just a thought if you like the overall effect. |

L_je, Point well taken. Fatty, My 55 watters arrived today. So far I have tried the 100w 3000k that came with the racelights, and a pair of 100w 5000k from hella and was dissapointed with their performance. The 55w that came today are in 3, 4 and 5000k. It seems to me the more k you have the less bright it looks. Looks like I will stick to the 100w 3000k for the high beam till I put a relay in, then I will try the 130w in 3000k from hella. Don't really want to start a light war, but I ride to work 30 miles one way in this third world republic of Miami everyday. You would not believe the stupidity I witness on the ride. Before the deathray, some F*&% would narrowly miss me 3-4 times every morning. No sheit. It is almost as bad in the afternoon as well. Since the new light install only 2 cutt offs all week. This place has to be the debris capital of the world as well, as I dodge a nice selection of bumpers, fenders, concrete blocks, sheets of plywood, rolls of tarpaper, spare tires and freaking traffic cones in my path everyday. I would much rather be judged by 12, than carried by six. I will tone down the low beam, for you guys and the motorcycle sport, (or at least the brother buellers) but when it comes time to be a diick, I would rather be a live diick than an dead one. |

I thought about this for a while too, and I'll comment now. I hate vehicles with the blinding headlights. I know there have been a few times that I have turned my head or had to raise my hand to my face from a super blinding light. When you do that, you aren't looking where your vehicle is pointed. People that are blinded may accidently turn the wheel when they turn their head and run you over or force you off the road or cause themselves to run off the road. I wouldn't want you to get run over. P.S. It is a cool looking set of headlights though and it would be awesome if you were the only one on the road/dirt (Message edited by buellinabq on February 09, 2007) |

If you are like me, most of my riding is done during the daytime. My lighting upgrade was as much or more for daytime visibility. Mine are bright, but not blinding. I have been flashed less than 5 times ever. I think you can find a happy medium compromise. |

Tread, I see you have Acerbis hand guards along with bar end mirrors. When you have a minute, would you post a closeup of the handlebar end. I'm interested in how you combined the two. I've been looking at the Acerbis guards with the built-in turn signals and wanted to use with bar end mirrors. In my one tipover (so far) the only damage was the turns signal lens. |

Gotj, Don't get eh Acerbis with the integrated blinkers..I put a set on a XR650 2 months ago and they are soo dim, and poorly fitted it is embarrasing. You would be better off to buy the Acrebis guards and find some small LED indicators and drill and mount them in the guards yourself. Treadmarks, if you don't mind... pass on the Part# for what light set you got? The lights are the one thing I don't like at all on the Uly First post hope I'm not breaking any rules |
